Overview
The Integrated Power Systems Advanced Current Compensation team in (Department 489) supports new technology development for the electric drive propulsion control system. The core focus of this group is management of suppliers to develop, test, and certify a requirement compliant component for delivery and integration to the ship. This position is for a systems engineer to primarily serve as engineering oversite for our Middletown, RI component supplier; working to ensure the not just the satisfactory delivery of components, but to advise and enforce the supplier's engagement in industry best practices.
Responsibilities: This role involves continued onsite presence at the vendor's facility in Middletown, RI through completion and delivery of design. Responsibilities include collaborating with supplier to ensure that the component meets quality standards and performance specifications, while working to drive compliance with industry best practices and improve organizational alignment with Electric Boat's technical and programmatic objectives. Candidates should have experience in product quality and vendor management, and be able to be self-reliant on day-to-day tasking to ensure the success of the supplier delivering compliant components. This role's responsibilities include:
- Project Monitoring: Overseeing supplier daily engineering operations to ensure adherence to design specifications and regulatory requirements
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers and design teams to address issues and drive alignment towards corrective actions promptly
- Problem Resolution: Identify potential risks or deviations from plans and develop solutions to mitigate delays or cost overspends
- Reporting: Providing regular updates to management on project status, challenges, and strategic insight
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering
- 4+ years of experience
- Willingness for near continuous on-site presence at the vendor facilities in Middletown, RI for test witnessing, model design and analysis review, and management of vendor progress/activities to program milestones
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense
Preferred:
- Experience with management of suppliers to requirements
- Experience with MATLAB Simulink
- Electrical Engineering or Computer Science experience
- Classes in mechanical design of electric motors, vibrations, electric drives, digital controls, power electronics
- Design, analysis, or test of power electronic systems and electromagnetic machines
- Power system design including fault analysis and protection/coordination.
