Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Research Associate I for a CONTRACT assignment with one of our premier Pharmaceutical Services clients in South San Francisco , CA .

Responsibilities :
  • Focused on the daily performance, development and advancement of the necropsy laboratory capabilities and services rendered onsite.
  • Support collaborations with research scientists and pathologists who discover and develop drugs for the treatment of various therapeutic areas.
  • Will provide the scientific and technical expertise at the benchtop necessary to support necropsy activities independently and achieve success for the laboratory.
  • Will also drive scientific development, research and may present these advances at the departmental level.

Required Skills :
  • 1-2 years of industry experience; specifically performing diagnostic rodent necropsies.
  • Record of productivity as well as relevant professional experience.
  • Thorough understanding & proficiency for working in an In vivo research setting.
  • Ability to adhere to established policies, procedures and safety requirements.
  • Independently establishes new procedures/methods/assays, and effectively communicates these changes through training procedures and working documents.
  • Conducts scientific, technical or process improvement tasks in the laboratory that are evidenced by authorship and co-authorship of scientific publications and/or patents.
  • Must demonstrate ability or experience in working on multiple collaborative projects and in excelling in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work within a team of diverse expertise.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Enthusiasm for presenting work including thoroughly explaining data, defending experimental designs, and stimulating/engaging in scientific decisions to a wide scientific audience.
  • Excellent multitasking, organization, record-keeping and problem-solving with good time management skills.
  • Must have a desire to perform bench-work as role is primarily on-site at our South San Francisco campus and lab-based.
  • Possession of the technical expertise and significant experience in a broad range of basic and specialized methods of bench-work including:
    • Extensive experience in animal handling
    • Proficient in comprehensive necropsy of rodents.
    • Administration of compounds required for designated procedures
    • Fluid collection for downstream analysis
    • Perfusion techniques
    • Visual acuity and manual dexterity necessary for excising extremely small and delicate tissue samples for histological analysis
    • Trimming, embedding & freezing tissues in various mediums
    • Extensive knowledge and experience describing scientific observations during gross examination
    • Publication-quality gross photography
    • Quality control of work and entering data in the department database
    • Ordering and replenishing consumables to ensure lab is adequately stocked
    • Overseeing maintenance of lab and equipment within to ensure safety
    • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
    • Work hours are commensurate with business needs.

Preferred Skills :
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Animal Science or similar field
  • ALAT & LAT AALAS Certifications
