Job Purpose
The Transmission Standards & Work Methods team is hiring a manager to ensure its transmission networks continue to be safe and reliable in the face of climate change and decarbonization. This role is responsible for leading and motivating the Transmission Standards & Work Methods Engineering team, which is responsible for establishing standards, electric operating procedures, specifications, tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment for engineering, design, and construction organizations. The manager of this team will provide oversight of the work of the team and ensure that interactions between different projects in the portfolio, and associated stakeholders, are well understood and managed.

Job Purpose

The manager of this team will provide oversight of the work of the team and ensure that interactions between different projects in the portfolio, and associated stakeholders, are well understood and managed.
Key Accountabilities
- The manager will lead a team of highly skilled engineering and analytical professionals and will be responsible for ensuring the workload is delivered on time at a high level of quality.
- Assess and ensure quality of Transmission design standards and Transmission work methods including development of training for new equipment and work methods; enabling the delivery and rollout to internal company stakeholders and meeting their expectations; and supporting investigations of damage and failure incidents.
- Make technical engineering recommendations to support team members and provide innovative solutions which have a positive impact on business performance in the short and longer term.
- Work with management stakeholders to identify and implement business process improvement and best practices in a consistent manner; and remain abreast of changing environments.
- Communicate progress and status of projects to key stakeholders with regular cadence.
- Ensure that the team deliverables are timely, feasible, fit for purpose and of superior quality.
- Promote the philosophy of safe working to team employees.
- Recruit, motivate and develop a technical team to inspire innovation, commitment and engagement and improve long term performance.
- Work closely with management and provide team leadership to ensure that organizational goals are communicated to the team and that group direction is consistent with corporate strategy, direction, and growth objectives
- Provide mandatory normal and off-hours support during emergency response events (i.e. storms.) This obligation is required for all National Grid employees.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel.
- Strong leadership skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Management from an accredited engineering school is required.
- A proven record with a minimum of 8+ years of in-depth experience within the Gas & Electric energy delivery or utility sector is required. Direct experience in power systems engineering field is preferred.
- Experience creating new ways to plan and operate the Transmission systems using advanced analytics, emerging technologies, and industry trends.
- Ability to manage small and large projects, working with external group resources, scheduling, and delivering results.
- Ability to prioritize work and be a team member on multiple projects at one time
- Valid driver's license required to facilitate travel as necessary across US service territory
