Job Details

On-site Redmond

Job Description:

Summary:
  • The Input Explorations team is a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team that performs exploratory pathfinding for new input devices and technologies in AR/VR, with a heavy focus on the end-user experience.
  • Client team is seeking an electrical engineer to support pathfinding prototyping on new/improved inputs and feedback mechanisms for next generation VR devices.
  • Candidate will support design, assembly, and test of electro-mechanical prototypes, and perform first-order technical integration feasibility analysis.
  • Candidate will work cross-functionally with teams that will dynamically change depending on the problem and potentially include mechanical, optical, firmware, software, and research experts.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Circuit Simulation & Design
  • Prototype Fabrication & Assembly
  • Prototype Testing/Characterization/Debugging
  • Support Prototype Integration into VR Software Experiences
  • Communicate findings/learnings to broader team
  • Estimate time and cost to complete projects.
  • Work autonomously and take initiative to manage individual and team priorities
Skills:
  • Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem solving ability.
  • Team player and detail oriented, with cross-functional collaboration experience.
  • Experience with schematic and board design using Cadence OrCAD, Altium or equivalent
  • Experience with standard electronics test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, VNAs, high speed digital test equipment, logic analyzers, function generators, etc.)
  • Strong documentation & communication skills
  • Basic understanding of various communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, etc.)
  • Experience with electronics debugging, root cause analysis, and problem solving.
  • Ability to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects.
  • Previous experience with computer applications and design software related to the engineering field.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  • 3 to 5 years industry experience required.
Note:
Top 3 must-have HARD skills:
  • 5 to 7 years of experience preferred. Work independently by themselves, minimum 3 years.
  • Schematic design, circuit simulation
  • Experience with standard electronic troubleshooting tools, power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and basic soldering skills.
  • Strong communication and planning skills.
Good to have skills:
  • Experience with FW would be nice, basic FW coding. Embedded systems always include some component of FW coding. Arduino, or simple coding environments.
  • Python; data visualization and device control.
Story Behind the Need - Business Group & Key Projects:
  • Multiple projects for the Input Explorations team.
Compelling Story & Candidate Value Proposition:
  • Cross-functional team dynamics, working with EEs but also working with ME/FW/HW/SW, and working with hardware that aligns with upcoming ARVR tech that heavily impacts end user experience, its more about the interactions they can unlock and create so its very end product focused.
Typical Day in the Role:
  • Attending meetings, HW/EE/FW/SW engineers to understand project requirements, design work, debugging and troubleshooting, and then providing some support for general cross-program needs where there are gonna be a few smaller projects. Few different projects they're working on.
  • Hardware level testing and debugging of circuits.
  • Right now they have a board in the lab they want to understand that just came from vendor, understand has it been designed and assembled properly, perform as expected, and is there any test conditions where voltage regulators or sensors are not performing as expected or proper working order?
  • Some degree of hardware design prototyping; new concepts that come up, having familiarity with schematic capture and layout tools so they can go in and design. Overseeing layout so they can actually fabricate the boards through the layout.
  • Works closely with external vendors, board application and assembly.
  • Procurement of parts, arrange for logistics.
  • Support integrating prototypes into VR experiences, close collaboration with SW team.
How will performance be measured:
  • Being able to execute on the tasks designed, clear conclusions with artifact to show at end of timeline i.e. prototypes, etc.
  • Ability to articulate exactly what the end product is and able to communicate throughout the way.
  • Feedback from the cross functional partners they work with, articulating if they were collaborative and able to coordinate and implement corrective actions based on learnings and feedback from other teams from a technology perspective.

Pay Range: $55++

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. Our full-time consultants have access to benefits including medical, dental, vision as well as 401K contributions as well as any other PTO, sick leave, and other benefits mandated by appliable state or localities where you reside or work.
