What you'll do...
Role summary:
The Senior Manager, Software Engineering leads platform-level execution of Squiggly Experience and AI/ML systems, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and roadmap milestones. This role oversees architecture, development lifecycle, and operational delivery across multiple teams, driving technical excellence, scalability, and reliability. Collaborating with cross-functional partners, the position champions innovation, continuous improvement, and integration of AI-enabled features. The leader mentors engineering talent, manages complex initiatives, and ensures solutions meet quality and business objectives while fostering a culture of accountability and high performance within a dynamic technology environment.
About the team:
The Squiggly Experience platform delivers an advanced AI-powered chatbot used by over 2.5 million Walmart associates worldwide. The team focuses on building scalable, flexible front-end architecture and reusable UX components to enhance digital experiences along with unified Squiggly metrics for all partners and stakeholders. Operating in an Agile environment, the team drives innovative solutions by integrating AI capabilities and metrics into the platform. Members collaborate closely to design and maintain robust systems that support business and technical goals. Leadership fosters technical excellence, mentorship, and strategic problem-solving to ensure continuous improvement and effective stakeholder engagement across projects.
What you'll do:
  • Lead platform-level execution of software and AI/ML systems, ensuring alignment with domain priorities and roadmap milestones.
  • Oversee shared infrastructure, tooling, and frameworks to support scalable, secure development and seamless system integration.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, championing DevOps practices and continuous improvement.
  • Guide architectural reviews and system design decisions to ensure maintainability, extensibility, and performance.
  • Mentor engineers, promote technical quality, and foster a culture of innovation and learning.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships to align engineering efforts with business goals and track operational metrics.
  • Implement cloud cost optimization and automation to enhance delivery efficiency and system reliability.

What you'll bring:
  • Extensive experience leading software engineering teams with strong technical leadership and project management skills.
  • Proven expertise in software architecture, solution design, and overseeing the full software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive platform engineering initiatives, including CI/CD, DevOps practices, and cloud cost optimization.
  • Strong proficiency in root cause analysis, system integration, and ensuring high system availability and scalability.
  • Skilled in mentoring engineers, fostering innovation, and promoting technical excellence through rigorous testing and code reviews.
  • Effective stakeholder management with the ability to align engineering efforts to business goals and track key metrics.

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
2 years' supervisory experience.
