Who We Are:

The Astronomy and Remote Sensing Group is a leading team of scientists and engineers dedicated to developing cutting-edge instrumentation for space exploration and remote sensing. We specialize in designing and building advanced sensors -ranging from gamma ray to infrared- and instruments that enable the study of planets, moons, asteroids, and distant celestial objects. From concept to deployment, we drive the development of next-generation tools that help unlock the secrets of our solar system and beyond.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Perform R&D utilizing additive manufacturing techniques to fabricate microchannel plates.
  • Perform fundamental research utilizing nano and micro-scale stereolithography to improve photodetector and remote sensing instrument performance.
  • Local year round student.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Work with a custom 3D printer fabricating microcapillary arrays, including mixing specialized photoresist, establishing post-processing procedures, and evaluating resulting structures (SEM, AFM, profilometry, etc.)
  • Work in a cleanroom environment with ultra-high vacuum equipment.
  • Meet regularly to discuss progress and integrate with the rest of the team.

Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics or directly related degree field.
  • 2-3 years: Within the related undergraduate degree program.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office).
  • Basic programming skills (Python, Matlab etc.).

Special Requirements:
