Principal Analog Architect

Lightmatter builds chips for artificial intelligence computing that leverage unique properties of light for efficient computing and communications. If you're a collaborative engineer or scientist who has a passion for innovation, solving challenging technical problems and doing impactful work...work like building the world's first optical computers, consider joining the team at Lightmatter!

We are hiring a Principal Analog Architect. The selected candidate will partner with external facing teams at Lightmatter and the internal engineering team to deliver groundbreaking products to the market. As an architect, you will provide detailed technical documents that describe what needs to be built to the engineering team. This will require a solid understanding of process technology, state of the art in integrated circuit design, and clear communication skills. You will represent the company externally at technical conferences as an example of our technical leadership.

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated hands-on Principal Analog Architect to help develop chips for our next-generation communication architecture alongside a team of world-class scientists and engineers. In this role, you will be defining the analog architecture for a ground-breaking photonic-based communication fabric. From component-level design to top-level layout, you will be part of a team that builds high-bandwidth low-latency photonic interconnect/switch fabric. The fabric will enable large-scale systems for future HPC and AI algorithms.

You will report directly to the Chief Scientist, but you will also work closely with our digital, photonic, and analog teams to define and optimize the features needed to improve the power, performance, and area (PPA) of the next-generation product. We are particularly looking for someone with expertise in high-speed link design, with a proven track record of shipping high-volume blocks/chips.

Join a tight-knit team where each individual's contributions directly influence the success of the company and product. You'll have the opportunity to build a new kind of computer from the ground up and to solve groundbreaking challenges along the way. Work with people who love to build and who thrive in technically diverse environments where great ideas are prioritized.

Responsibilities
  • Be the analog architecture owner of Lightmatter's Passage product.
  • Collaborate with teams across the company including Analog, Digital, Photonics, Packaging, and Systems to architect Lightmatter products for HPC and other communications systems.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a high-bandwidth photonic modulator drivers and photonic receiver TIAs.
  • Perform architectural exploration for these high-speed components in MATLAB and Spectre.
  • Translate customer requirements into system-level models and detailed specifications.
  • Author, review, and validate architectural specifications.
  • Identify possible pitfalls or difficulties, as well as mitigation strategies, around the execution of the proposed architecture.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience leading and designing high-speed links in an integrated circuit
  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Experience developing high-volume photonic product is a must
  • Extensive experience in designing high-speed (56Gbps+) photonic modulator drivers for MRMs and/or MZMs as well as high-speed photonic receivers and TIAs
  • Deep knowledge of the state-of-the-art and industry roadmaps for SerDes and other communications interfaces
  • Experience with advanced node technologies
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with and creating IBIS-AMI models
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in problems that do not have obvious solutions
  • Experience working with different communication protocols is a plus
  • Experience with 2.5D/3D packaging and TSV technologies

Benefits
  • Comprehensive Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • 401k matching
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Generous Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Paid Family Leave
  • Short Term & Long Term Disability
