QA Manager - Software & Data
Salt Lake City, Utah
Contract-to-Hire
$60 to 65 per hour contract with a conversion salary of $125K to $130K annually + bonus

Summary
The QA Manager - Software & Data Engineering is responsible for enterprise-wide quality assurance and quality engineering across application, data, and analytics platforms. This leader defines quality strategy, standards, and tooling while managing QA organizations that support multiple development teams and business units. The role requires proven experience leading teams at scale and a consistent history of sustained ownership in prior roles, demonstrating the ability to raise quality outcomes over multi-year engagements.

Responsibilities
  • Define and execute an enterprise QA/QE strategy covering application, data, and analytics testing
  • Lead, mentor, and scale QA and test engineering teams supporting multiple product and engineering groups
  • Establish standardized test frameworks, automation practices, and quality gates integrated into CI/CD pipelines
  • Oversee data quality validation for pipelines, integrations, reporting, and analytics artifacts
  • Govern quality standards for BI, planning, low-code, and enterprise platforms
  • Own UAT coordination, release readiness, defect prioritization, and go/no-go quality recommendations
  • Track and report quality metrics, driving corrective actions and continuous improvement
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, Security, and Operations leaders to communicate quality risks and trade-offs
  • Manage QA tooling, vendors, and operating budgets
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in enterprise QA/QE across software and data platforms
  • 4+ years of leadership experience managing multi-team or distributed QA organizations
  • Demonstrated experience owning quality across large, complex application and data portfolios
  • Proven track record of employment stability, with most leadership roles held for two or more years, reflecting sustained accountability and long-term impact
  • Strong experience designing and implementing automated test strategies across application, API, and data layers
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD-integrated testing, defect management, and non-functional testing
  • Experience managing vendors, partners, and contractual deliverables
Bonus Skills
  • Master's degree in a related discipline
  • Deep experience testing data engineering and analytics platforms (including BI models and semantic layers)
  • Experience validating enterprise planning, low-code, or supply chain platforms within governed release cycles
  • Proficiency with test automation frameworks, SQL, data validation tools, and quality metrics dashboards
  • Track record of modernizing QA practices to improve speed, reliability, and predictability
