Job Title: UI/UX Designer and Developer
Duration: 12 Months
Location: Everett, MA (Hybrid 1 day per week on-site)

Position Summary:

An education-focused public sector organization in Massachusetts is seeking a skilled and versatile UI/UX Designer and Drupal Developer to join their digital services team. This role combines user-centered design with advanced Drupal development capabilities to deliver high-performing, accessible, and engaging digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather project requirements, define user needs, and align designs with business goals.

  • Design and develop custom Drupal websites, including theming, templating, and front-end components.

  • Lead and execute content migration strategies, including taxonomy configuration and metadata structuring.

  • Build responsive, standards-compliant front-end interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

  • Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to visualize and refine user interfaces.

  • Configure Drupal site elements: content types, views, menus, roles, blocks, and permissions.

  • Conduct usability testing, user research, and feedback loops to inform design improvements.

  • Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards, including assistive technology support.

  • Optimize web performance and ensure cross-device/browser compatibility.

  • Deliver hands-on training and documentation for internal teams on Drupal site building and management.

  • Mentor colleagues on Drupal best practices and assist with knowledge transfer.

  • Stay current on UI/UX trends, accessibility standards, and Drupal technology updates.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 6 years of experience in UI/UX design and front-end web development.

  • 3+ years of Drupal 9+ development experience, including theming, site building, and admin configuration.

  • Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards, testing, and remediation.

  • Experience in Drupal content migration and taxonomy design.

  • Familiarity with front-end frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, Foundation) and JavaScript libraries (e.g., React, jQuery).

  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and web service integrations.

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

  • Demonstrated ability to document and communicate technical and design processes clearly.

  • Proven experience in mentoring or training teams in Drupal theming and content management.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Bachelor s degree in Web Design, Computer Science, HCI, Graphic Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
