Position Overview
As the Head of Engineering - Intelligent Automation, you will drive the strategic direction, performance, and modernization of the company's automation portfolio. Unlike hands-on implementer roles, this position focuses on organizational leadership, architectural guidance, team optimization, and operational excellence across large-scale automation functions. You will oversee legacy and modern platforms, ensuring automation investments continue to deliver measurable value across the enterprise.

This is a high-impact role requiring strong people leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to operate at scale within a complex enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities Strategic & Organizational Leadership

• Lead the engineering organization responsible for Guardian's legacy and modern automation platforms, including:
  
  • RPA (attended & unattended)
  • NLP technologies
  • Digital assistants
  • Older automation and workflow technologies
• Develop and execute a comprehensive automation and AI strategy aligned with business goals and enterprise technology direction.
• Optimize organizational structure, performance, and efficiency across a global workforce of 30+ engineers (onshore/offshore).
• Drive coaching, upskilling, performance management, and workforce planning for the automation engineering teams.

Solution Oversight & Architecture

• Provide high-level architectural direction and governance for automation solutions; ensure scalability, maintainability, and security.
• Guide the evolution and modernization of legacy platforms-prioritizing enhancements, stability, and performance.
• Oversee intelligent automation integration, including process automation, workflow simplification, and customer self-service enablement.
• Ensure continuous improvement across automations to reduce Average Handling Time (AHT), improve customer experience, and streamline operations.

Stakeholder Alignment

• Partner with engineering, product, customer experience, operations, and IT to integrate automation solutions across the enterprise.
• Represent the automation strategy to senior leadership with clarity and confidence.
• Translate complex automation concepts into business-aligned narratives for decision-makers.

Governance, Security & Compliance

• Ensure all automation initiatives comply with enterprise security requirements, data protection standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Define KPIs and performance metrics, ensuring visibility into business impact and ongoing optimization.

Required Skills & Experience Leadership & Team Management

• Proven experience leading large engineering teams of 30+ across onshore/offshore models.
• Strong people leadership: coaching, restructuring, talent development, and operational management.
• Experience stabilizing and improving performance of distributed automation groups.

Technical Understanding (High-Level)

• Strong understanding of RPA ecosystems (attended and unattended), but not a hands-on UiPath implementer.
• Experience with NLP systems and conversational AI platforms.
• Background in system-level architecture and high-level technology decision-making.
• Ability to assess legacy technologies and build modernization roadmaps.

Enterprise Experience

• Experience operating within complex, large-scale enterprises such as insurance, financial services, telecom, or similar industries.
• Demonstrated success in optimizing and governing automation platforms across multiple business units.

Communication & Influence

• Excellent communication skills-clear, articulate, and able to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong ability to present automation strategies to senior leadership.

Education

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, management, or related field.
