SAIC's Horizon program is seeking you, our latest Software Engineer with expertise in modeling and simulation, to support the U.S. Space Force's mission of delivering warfighter capability via the Space Systems Command's Program Executive Office for Space Combat Power. This position is located in El Segundo, California. As our established software developer, you will contribute expertise in software engineering as a member of a fast-paced multidisciplinary mission operations modeling, simulation, and analysis team. If you love nuts-and-bolts hands-on object-oriented coding, your skillset will be highly valued in providing both application and unit test development. You will have a strong hand in defining and executing development tasking as part of an Agile Kanban process, culminating in a DevOps pipeline. Your knowledge and talent will guide the team in assembling and releasing an ever-growing portfolio of space mission operations analysis simulations and trade studies.

Fun stuff on the job you will do:
- Be a member of a fast-paced multidisciplinary mission operations modeling, simulation, and analysis team informing the United States Space Force acquisition decision process.
- Your background and interest in simulation development will be highly valued in developing and testing simulation applications. You'll be integrating mission simulation tools into an automated system-level trade study execution architecture.
- You will have a strong hand in defining requirements, specifying designs, and implementing an ever-growing portfolio of space mission operations analysis simulations and trade studies.
Qualifications
This is you:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, software engineering, aerospace, astronautics, mathematics, or physics and five (5) years of experience with:
- At least one programming language: MATLAB, Python, Java, C#, or C++.
Git (with GitLab or GitHub), SubVersion, ClearCase, or other revision control system supporting branched development. - Agile process (Scrum, Kanban) experience as a developer, scrum master, or product owner. Use of Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) in support of the Agile process.
- Develop and implement software development best practices. Participate in software peer reviews, both as a developer and as a reviewer.
- Software development, unit test, build, and release cycle using DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
- Preparing and delivering presentations and technical demonstrations.
- Managing files & directories, network file sharing, installing software & licenses, and command line shell (Windows Cmd or Bash).
- At least one programming language: MATLAB, Python, Java, C#, or C++.
- Must have an in-scope security background investigation (TS or SSBI), adjudicated for SCI eligibility and enrolled in the Continuous Evaluation program (if applicable).
- Must be willing to be nominated for access to Sensitive Compartment Information and Special Access Programs and willing to consent to a Polygraph examination.
Desired Qualifications
- Simulation development experience with simulation environments such as STK, AFSIM, GMAT, or FreeFlyer.
- MATLAB and/or Simulink or other simulation scripting languages.
- Simulation software development, test, and integration experience in a team environment. Use of Agile methodology and Atlassian Jira are beneficial.
- Prior industry experience in aerospace or space & defense.
- Systems engineering, with experience defining and executing trade studies. Engineering methodologies such as Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Multidisciplinary Design Analysis Optimization (MDAO), or Model-Based Design are a plus. Demonstrated knowledge of supporting toolsets such as Cameo Enterprise Architect, Sparx Systems EA, or Ansys ModelCenter would be helpful.
- Participation in engineering peer reviews, both as a developer and as a reviewer.
- Advanced degree in engineering with emphasis on applications to space launch, orbit propagation, and maneuvering.
- Professional certification (e.g., Professional Engineer, INCOSE CSEP, ITEA CTEP, Agile PM/PO, OMG OCSMP, etc).
