Company Overview: System One is partnering with our client in search of a Lead Engineer. Join a dynamic team, where innovation meets regulatory excellence in the aviation industry. As a leader in our field, we pride ourselves on our commitment to quality and safety, ensuring every product and service meets the highest standards.
Position Summary: We are seeking a technically proficient and organized Lead Engineer with a robust background in avionics systems, mechatronic integration, and effective project/program management. This pivotal role will focus on leading the design, implementation, and sustainment of avionics hardware and fundamental mechanical systems while supporting projects in compliance with FAA Part 145 standards. The ideal candidate will marry systems thinking with proactive technical leadership, demonstrating a thorough understanding of repair station regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Spearhead engineering projects that involve avionics system integration, troubleshooting, repair, and redesign, ensuring project milestones are met in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate engineering support for repair and overhaul activities that comply with FAA Part 145 standards.
  • Create and document electrical wiring diagrams, harness designs, and PCB layouts for a range of avionics applications.
  • Execute basic mechanical design projects for enclosures, brackets, and testing fixtures using CAD software.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including schematics, test procedures, and compliance records.
  • Serve as the primary engineering contact for program managers, quality assurance teams, and customers, facilitating clear and effective communication.
  • Lead root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and champion continuous improvement initiatives across engineering tasks.
  • Support and lead engineering reviews, risk assessments, and failure investigation activities.
  • Collaborate with DERs, Quality Assurance, and FAA inspectors to secure approval for engineering data and repair specifications.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering their growth and ensuring design practices adhere to both industry and regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of engineering experience.
  • Strong expertise in avionics systems, including wiring, connectors, and embedded control principles.
  • Proficient in mechanical design tools pertinent to assemblies.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulatory compliance, including Part 145, AC 43.13, and RS-DER processes.
  • Proven track record of managing engineering projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of leading technical discussions and clearly documenting findings.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working within an FAA Part 145 repair station or MRO environment.
  • Knowledge of DO-160, DO-254, or DO-178C standards.
  • Awareness of aviation wiring standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS50881).
  • Project Management Certification (e.g., PMP) or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on familiarity with avionics test equipment, data buses (ARINC 429, CAN), or simulation tools.
What We Offer:
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development within a supportive work environment.
  • Access to the latest tools and technologies in a dynamic and forward-thinking company.
  • The chance to make a significant impact on aviation safety and innovation.
