Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States.

We are seeking a Senior Director of Retail Digital Technology to lead the strategy, design, development, and delivery of our consumer digital banking platform, serving millions of retail customers. This is a senior technology leadership role responsible for shaping and driving our online and mobile banking experiences, managing the digital tech stack, and delivering secure, scalable, and highly available digital services.

This role requires a hands-on, technically deep leader who can bridge engineering, architecture, product, and operations, while managing a complex blend of vendor and proprietary ecosystems and ensuring enterprise-grade availability, resilience, and stability across the digital landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Business Strategy - partners and collaborates with key product, business and technology stakeholders on digital technology strategy. Develops business cases for the design and implementation of emerging technologies. Assists in creating a strong digital platform presence for the Bank in line with larger business objectives.
  • Digital Technology Strategy - Leads the technical strategy for consumer online and mobile banking platforms, aligning with enterprise goals and customer experience expectations. Owns the end-to-end consumer digital tech stack, from front-end frameworks to middleware and core banking integrations. Aligns to defined digital architecture standards, including microservices, APIs, orchestration, availability, and failover strategies.
  • Platform Engineering & Application Development - Leads the design, development, testing and implementation of complex digital, multi-system environments. Drives SDLC excellence (Agile/DevOps), CI/CD, and testing automation for digital products. Owns the integration strategy between digital channels and core banking systems. Manages and evolves integration with third-party vendors, fintech APIs, and data services
  • Platform Availability & Stability - Ensures platform availability, stability, performance tuning, capacity planning, and proactive incident management through strong observability practices and SLA enforcement. Partners with Infrastructure and IT Operations to monitor uptime and enhance system resilience. Monitors performance and directs the resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Security, Risk & Compliance - Partners with Cyber, Risk, and Compliance teams to enforce secure coding practices, access controls, encryption, and threat detection. Ensures platforms meet regulatory requirements (FFIEC, PCI, etc.) and internal audit standards.
  • Vendor Management - Owns performance SLAs, contract negotiations, renewals, and vendor risk management - ensuring vendors meet availability, stability, and recovery expectations. Evaluates, selects, and manages digital solution providers and system integrators.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of experience in Digital Initiatives and Information Technology management

OR

High School Diploma or GED and 16 years of experience in Digital Initiatives and Information Technology management

Preferred qualifications:
  • Financial Services/Banking experience, Large Financial Institution (LFI) preferred
  • Experience with customer facing applications
  • Previous experience building and implementing an online banking platform
  • Deep understanding of digital architectures (microservices, RESTful APIs, containerization, cloud-native services, IDP Authentication).
  • Strong experience in middleware and orchestration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Kafka, TIBCO, etc.).
  • Expertise in core banking system integration (e.g., FIS, Fiserv, Jack Henry, Hogan).
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps, automated testing, CI/CD, and observability tools (e.g Dynatrace, logging, alerting).
  • Demonstrated success in vendor and third-party integration management.
  • Solid grasp of availability and disaster recovery best practices for digital applications.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Proven experience coaching, mentoring and team building
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Background in design thinking or customer experience design.
  • Certifications in Agile, AWS, or relevant technology disciplines - preferred

If hired in North Carolina, the base pay for this position is generally between $172,558 and $230,077. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
