This role will typically be dedicated to a specific project; however, you will report to the Manager of Content and Technical Writing as part of the Technical Writing Team. If you want to help public agencies, non-profits, and companies get their data right, we look forward to hearing from you.

Amida is seeking a Business Analyst/Technical Writer to join our team. In this role you will analyze project requirements and processes while producing high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our company. This individual will have a thorough understanding of our customer-facing projects to gather and analyze project requirements and compose clear and coherent project documentation (status reports, detailed analysis, training manuals, etc.) for our customers and our project development initiatives. The Business Analyst/Technical Writer will collaborate with developers, analysts, project development, service delivery, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, document project details and technical methodologies and produce other relevant collateral. This role supports Amida's data-focused solutions including healthcare data interoperability, microelectronics security, data exchange platforms, and secure data management systems for the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and state agencies.

What you will do:

Business Analysis & Documentation

  • Conduct Joint Application Development (JAD) and requirement validation sessions; create user stories, process flows (in Visio and other process modeling tools), and requirement traceability matrices
  • Write Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs), Deliverable Expectation Documents (DEDs), System Design Documents (SDDs), and interface documentation
  • Document Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), workflows, and support entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) documentation
  • Perform thorough fact- checking of all documents to verify accuracy and completeness of technical information
  • Plan, organize, and track documentation projects with proper project plans

Technical Documentation & Editorial Leadership

  • Create technical specifications, user guides, and implementation plans meeting federal standards
  • Write and maintain business-focused content including status reports, project briefs, process guides, and executive summaries
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations including In-Progress Reviews (IPRs), Project Overviews, and Demonstration decks
  • Apply structured editing using Chicago/client style guides; maintain Section 508 compliance
  • Serve as final quality gate for client deliverables, mentor writers and coach teams
  • Develop standardized templates and ensure consistent documentation quality

Editorial Leadership & Quality Assurance

  • Apply structured editing using Chicago, client, or internal style guides
  • Edit and review documentation for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to standards
  • Ensure Section 508 accessibility compliance in all documentation
  • Lead client review meetings for documentation deliverables
  • Coordinate review cycles with subject matter experts and technical teams
  • Manage version control for documentation deliverables using SharePoint, Git, or AWS
  • Coordinate review processes with appropriate compliance and security teams
  • Create standardized templates for recurring document types
  • Mentor junior writers through detailed peer reviews
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in project administration, information technology, English, journalism, communications, or similar area

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a Business Analyst and technical writing role for complex federal and state IT projects

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years direct client-facing experience
  • Advanced skills with SharePoint, Confluence, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Experience with project management and tracking tools including JIRA, Azure DevOps, Rally
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Excel
  • Experience writing documentation for complex data solutions including: healthcare interoperability (FHIR, HL7), data governance systems, secure data exchange platforms, cybersecurity implementations, and/or microelectronics security for federal agencies (Department of Defense [DoD], Veterans Affairs [VA], National Aeronautics and Space Administration [NASA], Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services [CMS]) and state programs
  • Strong editorial skills and knowledge of style guides
  • Excellent prioritization abilities across concurrent projects
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMSs), version control, and Agile methodologies
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable
  • Design skills for creating diagrams, flow charts, and visual aids

Preferred:

  • Master's degree or Society of Technical Writers certification
  • Project Management Certification - PMI-PMP
  • Project Analysis Professional Certification (CBAP or CCBA)
