Junior Data Scientist

Job Description

ECS is seeking a Junior Data Scientist to work in our Fairfax VA office.

ECS seeks a Junior Data Scientist to support a project team responsible for managing an Artificial Intelligence initiative. This role will report to a project leader and will focus on developing and applying methods to analyze image and motion imagery data and building computer vision models across multiple classification levels and environments.

Position Responsibilities:

• Participate in technical exchange meetings and discussions with our customers, vendors, and internal team to help coordinate, prioritize, and track datasets supporting AI efforts.
• Work in person at the required office and, as needed, classified locations with team members and customer stakeholders.
• Understand and interpret data from a variety of geospatial data sources and disparate datasets.
• Assist in preprocessing image/video data sets (e.g. annotation, augmentation, normalization).
• Develop and apply methods to identify, collect, process, and analyze large volumes of data to build and enhance GEOINT processes, and systems.
• Perform mathematical and statistical analysis of data to identify trends and generate observations that will be placed in reports for leadership.
• Develop basic statistical models and machine learning prototypes under supervision.
• Create visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics or computer related field.
• Work Experience: 0-2 years in data analytics or related role.
• Proficiency in Python, Open CV, Py Torch or Tensor flow and/or SQL.
• Understanding of foundational ML concepts and evaluation Metrics.
• Experience with image classification, object detection or segmentation tasks.
• Experience transforming and manipulating data sets.
• Experience with Computer Vision solution using Transformers, self-supervised learning or multi model fusion.
• Knowledge of edge deployment, model compression or real time inference.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform) and containerization (Dockers)
• Excellent communication skills, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.

Desired Skills

• Active Top Secret Clearance.
• Advanced proficiency in Python, Py Torch/Tensor Flow and deep learning frameworks.
• Proficiency in developing Computer Vision solutions using Transformers, self-supervised learning or multi model fusion with little hand hold.
• When performing code reviews (PRs), complete full checks on proposed changes, provide suggestions, and demonstrate understanding of downstream effects.
• Proficiency in development of models for Image/ Video classification, detection or segmentation.
• Design and evaluate custom architecture or fine tune pre-trained models.
