Title: IT Support Technician
Location: New Haven, CT
Client Industry: Higher Education
Compensation: $20 - $22/hr.
We have partnered with our client in their search for an IT Support Technician 2. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive technical support services within a moderately complex computing environment. The IT Support Technician will manage desktop computing environments, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, administer user and group accounts, and deliver proactive training and support to end users. The position requires strong technical expertise across operating systems, hardware, and application packages, as well as excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills to ensure seamless IT operations within the department.
Responsibilities
- Manage a client department's desktop computing environment, including software, hardware, and peripherals.
- Create and maintain organizational units and group policies in Active Directory.
- Perform proactive site visits, maintain system inventories, and ensure all software and operating systems are up to date.
- Install, configure, and coordinate repairs for a wide variety of devices and peripherals.
- Respond to emergency and routine IT support calls, documenting and resolving reported issues.
- Provide user training and support for desktop equipment, core services (e.g., email, scheduling, backup), and department-specific applications.
- Collaborate with peers to ensure smooth integration of network and software solutions.
- Lead small-scale IT projects, including testing of new hardware, software, and operating systems.
- Train other IT support technicians as needed.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Skills Required
- Advanced proficiency in Mac OS and Windows OS.
- Knowledge of at least one coding or scripting language.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and enterprise application packages.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair Apple, PC hardware, and iOS devices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Education & Work Experience
- High school diploma with eight years of related IT experience (six of which at the next lower level within the same job family); OR
- Associate degree with six years of related experience; OR
- Bachelor's degree with two years of related IT experience.
