Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Android Software Engineer with expertise in developing enterprise-grade Android applications, particularly for Zebra handheld Android scanners with deep integration into asset tracking, inventory management, and configuration databases. The ideal candidate will also have experience integrating applications with IT Asset Management (ITAM)platforms like Nautobot. Familiarity with Python and Go for backend integration or scripting tasks is a plus.
You will collaborate closely with product managers, infrastructure teams, and DevOps to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient mobile applications that integrate tightly with enterprise asset and configuration management systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Android Application Development
Design, build, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin and/or Java, optimized for Zebra rugged handheld devices (e.g., TC5x, MC3x series).
Implement device-specific features like barcode scanning, RFID interaction, and battery management.
2. Asset Management and CMDB Integration
Develop and maintain app functionalities that integrate with Nautobot, ServiceNow CMDB, or similar IT Asset Management platforms.
Build secure, RESTful API connectors to synchronize device information, asset status, and configuration data with backend systems.
3. Environment Configuration and Device Provisioning
Automate Zebra device provisioning and configuration using Zebra Visibility IQ/DNA Cloud, Microsoft Intune.
Ensure secure management of device settings, profiles, and updates across environments.
4. Backend and Scripting (Optional)
Use Python and/or Go for backend service development, custom API integration, device telemetry processing, or automation of asset management workflows.
5. Build, Release, and Deployment
Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines for mobile applications using tools like GitLab Runner, Jenkins.
Deploy updates via Google Play Console or EMM tools to field devices.
6.Testing and Quality Assurance
Write and maintain unit, integration, and UI tests using JUnit, Espresso, and Mockito.
Perform hands-on testing with physical Zebra hardware and emulators.
7. Monitoring and Diagnostics
Implement device health monitoring features (battery life, signal strength, error reporting) and integrate telemetry with backend monitoring solutions.
8. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing
Maintain detailed technical documentation covering APIs, architecture, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Train and support internal teams in device operations and app usage.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
5+ years of professional experience developing Android applications using Kotlin and/or Java.
Hands-on experience with Zebra handheld Android devices, Zebra EMDK SDK, and DataWedge APIs.
Experience integrating with IT Asset Management platforms (e.g., Nautobot, ServiceNow CMDB).
Strong knowledge of Android enterprise device management, security, and mobile networking.
Proficiency with RESTful APIs and JSON.
