Job Details

At Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, our internship program offers hands-on experience in a dynamic 63-acre shipyard environment, providing exposure to a wide range of projects and technical disciplines. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to real-world projects while learning directly from experienced engineers, designers, and shipyard professionals.

During your internship, you will gain valuable insight into:
  • Naval Architecture -- Understanding hull design, stability, hydrostatics, and the fundamentals of ship performance.
  • Electrical Systems -- Exposure to shipboard power distribution, control systems, automation, and integration of complex electrical equipment.
  • Mechanical Systems -- Involvement with propulsion, HVAC, piping, and auxiliary machinery essential to vessel operation.
  • Structural Systems -- Learning about ship construction methods, structural analysis, materials, and fabrication techniques.

In addition, you will:
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support both new construction and repair projects.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and problem-solving activities.
  • Gain first-hand knowledge of shipyard operations, including production processes, safety standards, and quality control practices.
  • Develop professional skills such as technical communication, project coordination, and teamwork in a fast-paced industrial environment.

This internship provides an excellent opportunity to explore multiple engineering and technical fields, build practical experience, and better understand what it's like to work in one of the nation's leading shipyards.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program relating to the engineering field

Desired Qualifications:
  • Junior, Senior, or graduate level
  • Advanced coursework in the fields of Construction Management, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Structural Engineering
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, modeling and drafting software
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to interact at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
