Job Description

To provide comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities, and to ensure that these facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations. Provides leadership, training, and direction to fellow staff members.

1. Works independently to develop economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs with direct supervision and guidance.

2. Provide accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified.

3. Directs the engineering and drawing production of electrical designs for SPR water facilities. (Applies to Reno location only)

4. Provide coordination and communication with other departments such that total project schedules and expenditures are maintained in accordance with commitments.

5. Provide input for development of detailed project schedules and update project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned.

6. Monitor project expenditures, and practice cost control such that project commitments are met.

7. Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections.

8. Based upon level of experience, provide assistance and guidance to other departments and districts in the solution of non-standard or complex substation design problems.

Qualifications

- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

- Professional Engineering License

- 10-15 Years or Substation Design Related Experience

- Requires a comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge and demonstrated excellence in substation/control engineering principals and considerable knowledge of other phases of engineering.

- Must be able to direct, coordinate, and review the work of a staff of engineers, technicians, and designers. Must have considerable knowledge of economic analysis methods, budgeting procedures, and company policies, rules and regulations.

- Must have a comprehensive knowledge of utility engineering practices and procedures, construction methods and material specifications.

- Uses considerable judgement and originality and solves unusual problems with a high level of independent decision-making.

- May assign and review work of other department staff. Typically requires 10 years engineering experience including 5 years at the Eng. II level.

- Employees who promote to this level must have or obtain professional registration within 24 months of job award.
