Responsibilities

As Senior Aero-mechanical Design Engineer at AMERICAN SYSTEMS (working on NASA's products) you will have the opportunity to do the following:
  • Ensure airworthiness of aircraft according to research objectives, customer requirements, NASA requirements, and standard maintenance criteria
  • Perform aero-mechanical engineering design, as applicable, to support maintenance and aircraft configuration changes
  • Interface routinely and effectively communicate with engineers, technicians, pilots, facilities, USAF as well as other Center support personnel, and the scientific community (internal and external) as required Provide advice and assistance to engineers, technicians, customers in both evaluating and implementing aircraft operations
  • Conceptualize or invent original or modified mechanical design solutions (highly unique and creative) for varied locations on varied aircraft.
  • Foresee, consider, address/analyze, and satisfy effects of acceleration, drag, static, and dynamic loads associated with flight envelopes independently and through collaboration with other departments
  • Produce complete, thorough, stand-alone mechanical drawings (i.e., mono-detail, multi-detail, assembly, and or installation drawings per the American Society of Mechanical Engineers [ASME] standards) that are able to communicate dimensions, tolerances, form, fit, function, criticality, and inspection in and of themselves
  • Plan and execute large and/or complex integration plans for projects; evaluate operational changes and modifications to ensure that the changes are consistent with operational capability of the aircraft and safety requirements
  • Utilize digital scanning technologies to create design models, where appropriate
  • Review and may approve work orders that result in structural fabrication and/or modifications to NASA's aircrafts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Physical Science and at least 7 years' experience
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic and multi-task work environment by prioritizing work and coordinating task/project schedules
  • Must be able to manage and decompose requirements in specific technical areas

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A 9/80 WORK SCHEDULE

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $91,600.00/Yr. - USD $153,000.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
