Job Title: Technical Writer 3
Location: Remote
Duration: 4 Months + Possibility of Extension


Job Description

The Technical Writer will be responsible for creating and managing clear, accurate, and accessible documentation for the Texas Student Data System (TSDS). This includes working collaboratively with the Product Owner team and supporting both internal and external communication efforts during critical data submission periods.

  • Develop comprehensive TSDS technical documentation aimed at end users.

  • Ensure documentation is current, accurate, accessible, and aligns with agency standards.

  • Work closely with the Product Owner team to collect and verify information.

  • Create various types of documentation such as simplified promotion logic guides, known software issues, release notes, and newsletter content.

  • Support the Product Owner team in communicating with customers during TSDS Data Submission periods.

  • Record and track software and data issues reported by Education Service Centers (ESCs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs).

  • Present findings from outreach efforts to internal teams and leadership.

  • Maintain consistent and professional communication with users to understand their challenges and improve support.

  • Research and evaluate industry best practices for documenting internal processes using tools like Jira.

  • Identify gaps and propose improvements to increase team efficiency.

  • Create and implement improved documentation practices and internal guides.

  • Train team members on new procedures and ensure thorough internal documentation for long-term usability.


Candidate Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Required Experience:

  • 8 years of experience in technical writing with a proven ability to produce clear and concise documentation.

  • 8 years of experience documenting software-related content, including issues, guides, and release notes.

  • 8 years of experience using Jira or similar application life-cycle management tools.

  • 8 years of experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • 8 years of strong verbal and written communication experience for effective team collaboration.

  • 8 years of customer service experience with demonstrated interpersonal communication strengths.

  • 8 years of experience with high attention to detail in documentation.

  • 8 years of experience in training and supporting team members on documentation and internal processes.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with the Texas Student Data System (TSDS) and its data collection processes.
