Job Title: Senior Azure Data Engineer - Data Modernization Project

Summary:
We are looking for a Senior Azure Data Engineer to lead the data engineering scope of a high-impact data modernization project. You will work alongside an Azure Architect who will establish the cloud environment, while you take full ownership of the data pipelines, transformations, and modeling necessary to support analytics and reporting needs.
This role is critical to the success of the Power BI team, which will rely heavily on your work to deliver business insights. You'll play a hands-on role designing and implementing the data architecture, working directly with stakeholders to understand requirements, and operating independently as the sole data engineering expert on the team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Azure Architect to help set up the new Azure environment, particularly with respect to data services.
- Ingest data from a legacy CRM system, including modeling, cleansing, transformation, and optimization.
- Design and implement new tables, joins, views, and schema structures within Azure SQL or other appropriate services.
- Build and manage data pipelines using Azure Data Factory or Synapse.
- Collaborate with Power BI developers to ensure they have access to clean, well-structured data layers that support advanced reporting.
- Meet with business stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into technical specifications.
- Operate independently with ownership over the data engineering scope, ensuring high quality and timely delivery.
- Use Azure DevOps for task management, deployment, and collaboration with the broader team.
- Participate in project meetings, demos, and knowledge transfer sessions as needed.
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, including recent experience with Azure Data Services.
- Proficient with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse, and related components.
- Strong experience setting up new data environments in Azure cloud infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of data modeling, schema design, and performance optimization.
- Ability to build complex joins, views, and data transformations across multiple systems.
- Comfortable working independently as the sole data engineer on the project.
- Proficient with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines, work tracking, and collaboration.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills - able to work directly with business users and non-technical stakeholders to understand needs.
- Experience working with data sourced from legacy CRM systems is highly preferred.
