RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior Data Engineer in Jacksonville, FL.
Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in transitioning legacy data systems to the cloud and building scalable, modern data infrastructure. This position involves working with a variety of Azure services to design and implement robust data pipelines and cloud-native workflows. You will collaborate closely with engineering, architecture, and IT teams to modernize data operations and ensure seamless integration across platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Architect and deploy cloud-based data solutions using Microsoft Azure to support enterprise-level applications and services
* Lead the migration of on-premise data assets and applications to Azure, utilizing tools such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Azure Functions, and Azure Data Lake Storage
* Modernize legacy ETL processes, including SSIS package migration via ADF lift-and-shift strategies, and orchestrate data ingestion using ADF, Apache Airflow, and Microsoft Fabric
* Integrate diverse data sources, including APIs and external systems, using Python, SQL, and Databricks to build efficient data pipelines
* Partner with cross-functional teams (DevOps, Security, Networking, Application Development) to ensure smooth and secure cloud adoption
* Monitor and optimize Azure resources, implementing proactive alerting, logging, and incident response protocols
* Ensure all solutions align with organizational security standards and compliance requirements
* Maintain thorough documentation of system designs, workflows, and operational procedures
REQUIREMENTS:
* Over 7 years of practical experience in data engineering and cloud-based infrastructure, with a strong foundation in IT systems
* At least 5 years of deep, hands-on work with Microsoft Azure, including cloud deployments, system administration, and workload migrations
* Proficient in working with large-scale data platforms and tools such as Azure Data Lake, Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks, and Spark-based frameworks
* Proven track record of migrating traditional on-prem systems (e.g., SQL Server, SSIS, legacy applications, file storage) to Azure using tools like Azure Migrate, Azure Site Recovery, Data Factory, and Azure Database Migration Service
* Familiar with DevOps methodologies, including CI/CD pipelines, source control systems like Git, and infrastructure-as-code practices
* Strong command of SQL, ETL/ELT development for big data environments, and data modeling techniques including dimensional models like star and snowflake schemas
* Solid grasp of Azure networking (VNets, NSGs, VPNs, ExpressRoute), identity and access management (Azure AD, RBAC, MFA), and cloud security principles
* Skilled in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and ARM templates
* Demonstrated ability to design, build, and fine-tune data pipelines for large-volume data ingestion, transformation, and analytics
