Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a bright and highly motivated Process Mechanical Water/Wastewater Engineer for employment in our Water Business Line based out of our New York, NY office. This is a project-based engineering position to assist and support Wastewater/Water Design, Design-Build and Program Management Projects. The Position will work with Project Managers and other technical disciplines on all project phases including Facility Planning, Design, Procurement, Construction and Close Out. Work will include assisting with the management and coordination of design projects on municipal Wastewater/Water facilities. Field work will be required and field visits to project sites within the NYC Metro area will be required to provide support as design liaison on ongoing construction projects.

Responsibilities and skills include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for engineering, design, and rehabilitation activities related to process mechanical equipment, vessels and tanks and piping systems including equipment and piping specifications and procurement. May be involved with the support of installation and operation & maintenance of equipment.

  • Builds analytic and design skills.

  • Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Evaluation and selection of process equipment, pumping systems, pipe materials, and valves under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Technical report writing.

  • Construction services support (e.g., shop drawings review).

  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

  • Production of design drawings from conceptual design through bid document phase.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or completion within a year.

  • General knowledge, limited experience, or relevant training related to fundamental theories, principles and concepts of water and/or wastewater engineering.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of Hydraulics Institute Standards

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AutoCAD, BIM360, REVIT, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models)

  • Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.

  • Strong logic skills and writing skills. Documents time and effort accurately. Ability to work productively in a team environment.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Flexible - can adapt to shifting priorities / work schedules. Able to work independently /self-learner.

  • Can take direction from others and in turn can provide guidance.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $68,000.00 - $85,000.00.
