Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week

This position primarily involves a hybrid work schedule - working remotely: Monday & Friday / on site: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The Solution Architect provides technical expertise spanning various platforms focusing on internet applications and data. Researches, develops and implements complex digital solutions supporting business capabilities required by NYL Direct.

Partners with business and technology teams to define, design and develop end-to-end digital solutions that combine technology with process and governance to drive revenue growth, achieve efficiencies, increase customer satisfaction and maximize value for New York Life Direct.

The candidate is expected to be able to design solutions across a broad range of technologies including content management, campaign management, data management, content operations, and personalization within the context of the insurance industry, in compliance with company operational, Risk and Security and other relevant policies.

The role requires superior communication and analytical skills. This role requires the ability to listen and understand the business's needs, goals and issues, and translate the identified needs to a comprehensive solution. Requires the ability to balance the business expectations and needs against resource and policy constraints to create viable solutions.

Qualified applicants must possess a solid background in Internet application development, with demonstrated expertise with content management and marketing web platforms such as Sitecore, AEM, Contentful. Experience with multiple platforms is a strong plus.

  • Provides technical leadership and design oversight on complex projects.
  • Evaluates and analyzes new technologies to address business requirements.
  • Applies technical knowledge to develop, implement, support and maintain the technical solutions.
  • Mentors app dev team members in the application system components and improving technical skills.
  • Participates in regular Technology Architecture group collaborative analysis, review and recommendation of new patterns, practices and implementations.
  • In collaboration with other Technology Architecture team members, conduct governance activities associated with ensuring solution compliance.
  • Maintains awareness of upcoming technological advances, product offerings and their implications to the existing Infrastructure.
  • Undertakes independent technical research of new technology capabilities; lead the evaluation and selection of software products.
  • Understand, advocate for and govern compliance with software development best practices and NYL Direct policies, standards and practices.
  • Effectively communicate the architecture process, its outcome and ongoing results.
  • Develop and maintain platform roadmaps .
  • Consult on application or infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify the solution architecture to accommodate project needs.
  • Identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures or culture) and financial impact of solution implementations.
  • In collaboration with other Technology Architecture team members, define the principles to guide solution decisions.
  • Produce and maintain solution architecture analysis and design reference documentation.
  • Work closely with the Project Managers and Agile leadership to ensure alignment of plans with what is being delivered.
  • Other assignments as required for compliance with IT mission, and to enable the Company to increase revenue, to become easier to do business with, to reduce unit costs, increase efficiency, reduce time to market and increase customer satisfaction.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, and at least seven years of applicable application development experience.

Experience with distributed architecture frameworks and cross platform integration.

Detailed understanding of development methodologies and solution architectures.

Proven technical experience with Software Development and processes.

Strong analysis and design skills with a focus on system design and flow and appropriate information security practices.

Experience with designing and implementing high volume, mission critical, production systems.

In-depth understanding of APIs. Experience with messaging protocols like as SOAP/WSDL and REST/WADL.

5 or more years' experience in designing and developing web-based software solutions.

5 or more years of hands-on experience with distributed (.NET/Java) programming languages and development platforms.

Experience working with React and .NET Core.

Experience with Devops and Continuous Integration processes and systems.

Ability to practice positive employee relations and develop self and others.

Ability to perform employee mentoring, coaching and counseling.

Self-motivated to identify, analyze and independently work to find solutions and follow issues.

Possess excellent judgment and analytical skills including detailed planning, estimation, and project management.

Resourcefulness in accomplishing objectives and completing tasks.

Independent decision making since most duties require evaluating a number of elements and alternatives generally involving extensive research.

Ability to perform duties with limited supervision.

Ability to perform assignments without review and keep supervisor informed of progress and results.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Consideration of fraud and security best practices as they pertain to Internet and intranet websites

Ability to quickly prototype solutions and new ideas

Strong focus on reusability and atomic design

Desired:

Development experience with local and cloud-based environments.

3+ years' experience developing and implementing applications in AWS and/or Azure-based cloud environments.

Knowledge of Life Insurance, Marketing and/or Telemarketing systems and applications.

Knowledge and experience with life insurance business application packages.

Experience with producing and consuming RESTful APIs
