What we want

The Division of Research is seeking a Research Computing Facilitator that will be responsible for assisting customers using complex high-performance computing resources and teaching technologies that will advance research computing practices at Texas A&M University. The incumbent will assist researchers with adopting these new technologies, offer technical solutions, and assist in the community-development of training materials. They will specifically focus on supporting the educational and training outcomes of the NSF ACSS Track II: ACES award made to Texas A&M.

Five years' experience with offering support and training on research computing frameworks and their application to problems in one or more scientific domains and experience in developing partnerships and collaborations involving research computing are preferred. Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of experience in user IT consulting.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to coordinate and manage training programs.
  • Excellent teaching, writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with common programming languages, tools, and techniques.
  • Proficient in HPC architectures and the LINUX/UNIX operating system.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable field.
  • Experience with offering support and training on research computing frameworks and their application to problems in one or more scientific domains.
  • Experience in developing partnerships and collaborations involving research computing.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiar knowledge of scientific applications common to research computing environments.
  • Proficient skill with programming languages and popular analysis toolkits commonly used in research computing environments.
  • Ability to grasp upcoming technologies and teach them to a research computing audience.
  • Familiar knowledge organizing information and data management services.
  • Ability to work with individuals and communities with different perspectives, talents & lived experiences.
  • Ability to travel both nationally and internationally.
  • Ability to complete tasks on time.
  • Demonstrated project management and coordination capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to write scientific, general purpose, and technical documents.


Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
  • Certification on training, use of research technologies, AI/ML frameworks, or use of cloud platforms.


Preferred Other Factors:
  • Published as an author on peer reviewed publications.


Responsibilities:
  • User Training and Outreach - Provides technical and strategic guidance to users on new research computing technologies via year-long training opportunities. Coordinates and maintains the HPRC training and outreach programs. Establishes standards and practices for teaching HPRC courses. Offers training sessions to HPRC users in remote, hybrid, live in-person, and asynchronous formats. Evaluates the efficacy of the training programs and identifies mechanisms to iteratively refine it. Maintains metrics and writes reports defining programmatic reach. Supports formal curricular efforts that use HPRC resources. Participates in HPRC's outreach efforts geared to the larger community. Supports funded efforts and assists in the preparation for external funding.
  • User Knowledge Base Enhancement - Works with HPRC staff to provide technical and strategic guidance to the user-community via a well-maintained campus and ACCESS user-knowledge base. Develops a continuum between the materials covered in training programs and the information presented on the knowledge-base. Collects, and updates application benchmark data on HPRC supported technologies. Offers guidance to help researchers integrate research computing technologies into their science and engineering workflows. Evaluates knowledge-base and training platforms to offer a continuum of user-support.
  • General User Support- Responds to user queries regarding HPRC resources and provides common technical consulting. Serves as a liaison with faculty and researchers. Presents findings at conferences and through posters, talks, and publications in proceedings and professional journals. Maintains performance benchmarks for HPRC resources to facilitate proposal development efforts. Supports and participates in funded and proposal preparation efforts. Maintains programmatic documentation for HPRC staff. Installs and maintains some scientific software.
