The Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) team develops solutions for managing Kubernetes clusters at large scale, focusing on creating efficient, secure, and scalable clusters for customers.

As a Software Engineer II on the AKS customer control plane team, you focus on enhancing the scalability and reliability of kube-apiserver and Extended Configuration and Tracking Database (ETCD), vital for AKS cluster performance. Your role includes improving these components, scaling strategy and contributing to cloud native code.

Responsibilities:

  • Optimize the scaling strategy for kube-apiserver and ETCD, leveraging-but not limited to-Vertical Pod Autoscaler (VPA) and/or Horizontal Pod Autoscaler (HPA).
  • Improve the reliability and robustness of kube-apiserver and ETCD components.
  • Contribute to cloud-native codebases to support ongoing system enhancements.
  • Oversee the monitoring and deployment of associated infrastructure components.
  • Fulfill Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) duties, including participating in on-call rotations to maintain system health and lead incident response efforts.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Go, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python

    OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of Linux working experience.
  • 2+ years of experience using Kubernetes clusters.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools and processes, such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, or GitLab.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Go, C, C++, C#, Java, OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Go, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
