Senior SQL Server DBA Permanent Role - Local Talent only Compensation: $170K $180K base plus comprehensive benefits including healthcare, dental, 401k match, generous PTO, holidays, and more Location: Hybrid or Onsite | Full-Time | 24x7 Environment Support


Lead and elevate a high-performing database operations team supporting enterprise-scale Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on technical leadership in a mission-critical, always-on infrastructure. You ll drive operational excellence, mentor DBAs, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure database reliability, performance, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Champion best practices in database architecture, performance tuning, and operational resilience
Inspire and guide team members, fostering a collaborative and accountable culture
Evaluate emerging database features and lead proof-of-concept initiatives
Recommend and implement performance and efficiency improvements across database systems
Contribute to IT process development, especially around service transition and operations
Own problem management and SLA adherence within incident and change frameworks

  • Schedule rotation, shift scheduling to ensure 24x7 coverage

Operational Excellence
Provide senior-level support for SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments including monitoring, backup and restore, performance tuning, and capacity planning
Lead database migrations, patching, and service pack deployments with minimal business impact
Manage RDS instances in AWS and support ETL workflows and SSIS packages
Enforce database security policies and compliance standards
Represent the DBA function in design reviews, change advisory boards, and daily stand-ups
Maintain and execute disaster recovery plans including regular failover testing
Author and maintain operational documentation and runbooks
Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and scheduled weekend work

Required Experience
Proven operational support expertise in Microsoft SQL Server within enterprise Windows environments
Deep understanding of disaster recovery technologies including SAN, Mirroring, Always-On, and Replication
Hands-on experience with AWS RDS, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL
Strong leadership background with experience assigning and overseeing BAU and project work
Ability to implement technical changes with minimal oversight and no service disruption
Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems and SLA-driven support models
Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills
Solid grasp of ITIL processes including Incident, Problem, and Change

Preferred Skills
Experience with banking or financial systems
Monitoring tools such as Dynatrace
PowerShell scripting
SSIS development and deployment
Backup technologies like EMC Networker or Rubrik

Qualifications
Bachelor s degree or equivalent experience
Prior experience supporting production-grade infrastructure and database services

Certifications (Preferred)
Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2019, or 2022
AWS Certified Database Specialty
ITIL Foundation or higher
