The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon's CORE principles. ME's capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.

The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development, and site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.

The ADGE department is looking for a full-time Principal Mechanical Engineer - Team Lead, located in Andover, MA.

The Section Leader is responsible for management of the engineering staff supporting design and development of the Patriot Radar shelters major components, infrastructure and sub-assemblies, including obsolescence upgrades, procurement and supplier support.
They and their direct reports will support the design, equipment integration, major end item development, vendor support, and sustainment of the existing equipment. The individual will support and lead multi-disciplined engineering teams and provide mechanical solutions and services across all program phases including proposal development. Areas of focus can encompass development of next generation Patriot Radar shelters, design development for existing shelter components an sub-assemblies, transition to production, product support, vendor oversight, and field upgrades.

This is an onsite role.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • Served as the liaison to the programs and Integrated Product Teams concerning staffing assignments, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee technical performance of individual contributors and engineering leads.
  • Responsible for employee technical development, leadership development, mentoring, motivating, training, and recognition.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Provide guidance on Raytheon expectations for design rigor, level of TDP & MDP documentation required, typical analysis approach, and other similar topics.
  • Represent Radar Shelter section in PDR, CDR, including ensuring design is manufacturable.
  • Mentor and train the new engineers by providing technical guidance and project support throughout the product life cycle.
  • Work with Radar IPT, suppliers and Raytheon subject matter experts as required to resolve any design and production issues.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges.
  • Lead and participate in design peer reviews and conduct trade studies to promote sound technical decisions.
  • Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in an engaged team environment.
  • Experience with leading a team for Drawing generation, drawing release, and drawing change incorporation.
  • Support the factory and suppliers with product integration domestically and internationally.
  • Meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical degree.
  • 8 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role with minimum four (4) years designing and developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments.
  • Experience leading engineering teams with cost and schedule responsibility.
  • Mechanical design experience, including concept definition through detailed design and transition to production and production support.
  • Experience in mechanical design, development, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with managing engineering budgets with Earned Value Management (EVMS), Estimate at Complete (EAC) process, supporting/leading proposals and Risk & Opportunity Management.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. .

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in supporting or leading proposals.
  • Familiarity with USG gate review process, having preferably been a previous hardware lead who participated in reviews
  • Experience with program startup activities (Gate 5)
  • Experience with Risk & Opportunity Management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an Integrated Product Team environment, interfacing with multiple Engineering disciplines, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, IPT Leadership, Program Managers, and Customers.
  • Engineering project management experience with schedule and budget responsibility.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications.
  • Working knowledge or experience with air defense systems missiles.
  • Experience in design, fabrication, and integration of military mobile shelters, trailers, and equipment packaging.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with hardware design for Patriot Air Defense Systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Power Point/Project)
  • Experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.
  • Experience with current manufacturing systems and processes.
  • Reliability or failure analysis experience.
  • Ability to generate Root Cause Corrective Action summaries and present it to program leadership.
  • Experience with generation of technical white papers.
  • Able to work well with people and achieve results with a minimum of conflicts and within schedule.
  • Previous experience that includes adaptability and willingness to work varying assignments.
  • Team leadership: experience leading a multi-disciplined, technical team with the ability to develop, empower, motivate and monitor the team.
  • Proven ability to lead technical solutions to complex user requirements.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
