Title: SAS Developer with P&C Insurance experience Loc: Hybrid, Financial District, NYC
Job Summary:
As a SAS developer in the P&C insurance sector, you will play a crucial role in leveraging data and analytics for a variety of tasks related to risk assessment, underwriting, claims management, and business intelligence.
Key responsibilities

Data Management and Analysis:

  • Developing and maintaining SAS programs for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from various sources, including legacy systems and modern applications.
  • Cleaning, validating, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of P&C insurance data for analysis and reporting.
  • Performing complex data analysis tasks to identify trends, patterns, and insights relevant to insurance operations.

Reporting and Business Intelligence:

  • Creating and maintaining various reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate key business information and support decision-making.
  • Generating statistical reports and data summaries using various SAS tools and procedures.
  • Presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders and management teams.
  • Model Development and Validation:
  • Developing and/or using vendor catastrophe models (e.g., Verisk/AIR, KCC, Cotality/CoreLogic, or Moody's/RMS) to quantify risk of loss.
  • Working with actuarial and risk management teams to implement and validate models for pricing, reserving, and risk management analysis, including complying with regulatory requirements like Solvency II and IFRS 17.
  • Modifying catastrophe models or their output to improve quantification of risk of loss, according to USAA Careers.

Collaboration and Technical Support:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., underwriters, actuaries, data scientists) to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Providing technical support and training to team members on SAS tools and best practices.

Essential skills and qualifications SAS Programming Expertise:

  • Strong proficiency in the SAS programming language, including Base SAS, SAS SQL, and SAS Macros.
  • Experience with other SAS tools and environments like SAS Enterprise Guide (EG) and SAS Viya
  • Proficiency in mathematical and statistical techniques for data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with other programming languages like SQL, Python, or R can be a plus.
  • Relevant SAS certification(s) are a huge PLUS (but NOT a must)

Domain Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of P&C insurance products, risk assessment methodologies, and underwriting principles.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry data models, regulatory requirements (e.g., Solvency II), and business processes.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex business challenges.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively interact with stakeholders and work within teams.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data quality and accuracy.
