The Health Informatics Specialist (HIS) plays a critical role in implementing quality improvement (QI) initiatives focused on Electronic Health Records (EHR) and performance-based reporting programs. This position integrates provider engagement, data analysis, and technical assistance to drive measurable improvements in clinical quality measures. The HIS will generate reports from EHR systems, provide guidance on the CMS Quality Payment Program (QPP), and support providers in optimizing workflows and performance.
Essential Competencies, Duties, and Responsibilities
Conduct EHR assessments to identify barriers to quality improvement and reporting; design and implement tailored interventions.
Deliver technical assistance through data analysis, QI coaching, and coordination of resources.
Interpret clinical performance data and collaborate with providers to develop actionable strategies for improvement.
Train and coach providers on optimizing EHR use for care management and accurate reporting of quality measures.
Apply QI methodologies to streamline workflows, enhance documentation, and reduce inefficiencies.
Facilitate education sessions and discussions on complex quality issues through on-site visits and virtual engagements.
Maintain thorough documentation of provider interventions and communications in systems such as SharePoint, CRM, and internal databases.
Partner with healthcare organizations to promote best practices and support sustainable QI goals.
Act as the primary point of contact for providers, ensuring responsiveness, satisfaction, and program success.
Identify, document, and disseminate best practices in care coordination and quality improvement.
Prepare routine project updates, site visit summaries, provider interventions, activities, and barrier/solution reports in compliance with CMS or internal reporting tools.
Education and Experience
Bachelor s degree in healthcare, life sciences, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Experience with at least one CMS healthcare quality program (e.g., Meaningful Use, MIPS, QPP, HEDIS, CPC+, VBP, Medicare Shared Savings Program).
Prior healthcare experience in an outpatient practice is preferred.
Other Qualifications
Strong knowledge of EHR systems, clinical registries, e-prescribing, and health information exchange.
Solid understanding of value-based care models, including MIPS and APMs.
Familiarity with data extraction, reporting, and query tools.
General awareness of healthcare trends, particularly in outpatient technology adoption.
Excellent communication skills able to explain complex healthcare topics in person, via teleconference, and in writing.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Strong organizational, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
Flexibility to occasionally work extended hours to meet project deadlines.
