We are looking for a versatile junior (new graduate) engineer to join our Solutions Engineering & Introduction team within the Product Line Management organization to support Ciena's Optical Systems portfolio.

As a key technical contributor on this customer-facing, engineering team, you will work directly with Product Development, Product Management, Sales Engineering and Services organizations to ensure the engineering readiness in bringing our innovative optical products and solutions to market.

You will develop, test, document and present a series of technical deliverables that enable the introduction of new product features and solutions in the context of product development cycle and technical customer activities such as demonstrations and trials.

As this role requires you to work extensively in a lab, you must reside in the greater metropolitan area ofMontreal, Canada.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
  • Help manage lab assets and upkeep the optical lab systems in pristine condition meeting requirements of team members.
  • Define, create, and validate customer-facing deliverables such as customer technical presentations, test plans, release notes, and engineering guides. All deliverables are vital technical documents to facilitate the introduction of Ciena's Optical Systems portfolio with our customers.
  • As a technical prime, deliver customer engagements which include product demonstrations, lab or field trials, deployments, and tests for varying solutions. In the process, capture any product issues and feed them into R&D processes for resolution. Capture any customer requests for incremental enhancements that could potentially be rolled into upcoming releases.
  • Support global sales community with pre- and post-sales activities that include customer bids, technical support and consultation, solution evaluation and design, market trials and other engineering Q&A support.
  • Assist with complex and/or urgent field issues that have been escalated from the Global Technical Support organization.

Specific Job Skills:
  • Must be an organized and meticulous team player with excellent English communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Exceptional presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • An articulate communicator, with excellent writing and social skills and an analytical approach to provide appropriate solutions to whichever tasks are presented.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment and appropriately prioritize tasks, and keep abreast of the latest technology.
  • Capability to work with people in different time zones and cultures.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications transport systems. Knowledge of optical transmission and coherent optics are assets.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation / lab environments / test methodologies. Lab experience with optical measurements (e.g. OSA) is an asset.
  • Experience coding (e.g. Python), WebUI (e.g. JSON), northbound interfaces (e.g. NETCONF) are assets.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in applied science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related discipline

Location:
  • Must be based in Montreal, Canada because the candidate will be expected to spend a significant amount of time in the lab.
  • Ability for travel varying from a few days to a few weeks at a time to other Ciena facilities or Customer.

Responsabilits principales:
  • Aider grer et maintenir l'quipement de laboratoire des systmes optiques dans un tat impeccable pour rencontrer les demandes des autres membres de l'quipe.
  • Dfinir, crer et valider les livrables pour les clients tels que les prsentations techniques, plans de test, notes de version et les guides d'ingnierie. Toutes ces livrables sont vitales la facilitation de l'introduction du portfolio de systmes optiques de Ciena auprs de nos clients.
  • Livrer et grer les interactions avec les clients incluant des dmonstrations de produits, les essais en laboratoire, le dploiement et la validation de diverses solutions. Durant ce processus, documenter les problmes avec les produits afin de les relayer aux groupes de recherche et dveloppement dans le but de les rsoudre et de documenter les requtes des clients pour amliorer les versions futures des produits.
  • Supporter notre communaut globale dans les activits d'avant et aprs-vente telles que les offres aux clients, le support et consultation techniques, l'valuation et la conceptualisation de solutions, les essais de march et autres questions d'ingnierie.
  • Assister la rsolution des problmes urgents relays par notre organisation de support technique global.

Habilets spcifiques:
  • Vous devez tre un coquipier mticuleux et organis avec des excellentes aptitudes de communications orales et crites.
  • Habilets exceptionnelles prsenter un auditoire technique et non-technique.
  • Communicateur articul avec des habilets sociales et une approche analytique fournir des solutions pertinentes aux tches qui vous seront prsentes.
  • Habilet oprer dans un environnement en constante volution technologique en sachant prioritiser les tches tout en restant jour avec les plus rcentes technologies.
  • Capacit travailler avec des coquipiers de diverses culture qui travaillent dans diffrents fuseaux horaires
  • Familiarit avec des systmes de tlcommunications. Des connaissances de transmission optique est un atout.
  • Familiarit avec l'instrumentation, les environnements de laboratoires, la mthodologie de tests, et de l'exprience avec les mesures transmission optique (eg. OSA) sont des atouts.
  • L'exprience de codage (e.g. Python), WebUI (e.g. JSON), interfaces machines (NETCONF) est un atout.

Education

Diplme de Bachelier en Science Appliques, Physique, Gnie lectrique, Gnie des Communications ou discipline connexe.

Lieu de Travail
  • Situ Montral, Canada puisque le candidat devra passer une partie apprciable de son temps dans les laboratoires de Ciena.
  • Habilet voyager pendant une dure pouvant varier de que quelques jours quelques semaines dans d'autres emplacements de Ciena ou sur les sites des clients.
