Job description:

We are seeking an experienced Shopify Architect with deep expertise in backend engineering and microservices architecture to design, develop, and optimize scalable e-commerce solutions. This role is critical for organizations looking to modernize their Shopify ecosystem, integrate with third-party systems, and support high-growth, high-traffic environments. You will lead architectural decisions, mentor development teams, and ensure the delivery of robust, high-performance Shopify platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and implement scalable Shopify solutions, focusing on backend systems and microservices to ensure optimal performance, security, and maintainability.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions, considering both current needs and future scalability.
Design and oversee the integration of Shopify with external systems (e.g., ERP, CRM, payment gateways) using RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
Lead the transition from monolithic architectures to modular or microservices-based approaches, promoting independent, loosely coupled services.
Conduct deep technical audits of existing Shopify implementations, identifying areas for optimization and modernization.
Guide, mentor, and manage backend engineers, enforcing best practices in code quality, documentation, and DevOps processes.
Stay current with Shopify platform updates, headless commerce trends, and emerging technologies in e-commerce and cloud infrastructure.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring high availability and reliability of e-commerce systems.
Regularly conduct code reviews and maintain high coding standards across the team.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of backend development experience (Java or Python), with at least 2 years focused on Shopify or e-commerce platforms.
Proven experience architecting and implementing microservices in a production environment, with a strong grasp of service boundaries, API design, and distributed systems.
Proficiency with backend programming languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, Python, Ruby, PHP, or Java.
Deep understanding of Shopify APIs (REST and GraphQL), Shopify Plus, and custom/private app development.
Experience with headless Shopify architecture and integrating with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Next.js).
Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, and cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure).
Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and monitoring tools.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading migrations from monolithic to microservices or modular monolith architectures in e-commerce.
Knowledge of e-commerce best practices, security, and compliance standards.
Background in mentoring and managing technical teams.
