Mainframe Software Architect

Job description

Client is looking for a Software Architect to join our mainframe Application Development team. This role will identify and drive solution approaches which support technology modernization within the OMF Loan Accounting System team and coordinate across the organization. This is a hands-on individual contributor, working directly with our leadership and development teams to coordinate, plan, develop and implement consistent and repeatable product solutions.

Qualifications

Minimum experience will include 7+ years of performing solution and enterprise design with a focus on full stack application development in both a cloud native and on-prem environment

Experience architecting high impact, reliable, applications in a responsive design

Experience with SDLC, test strategies, technology optimization, and strategic planning

Direct hands-on experience with IBM mainframe legacy systems (zSeries), including source code management tools such as Change man or Endeavor

Experience in these technologies: COBOL, CICIS, z/OS Connect, MQ Series, Java, Angular, SQL, DB2 Rest API, JSON

Exposure to Easytrieve and Assembler is beneficial

Demonstrated success introducing new technologies and development methodologies to an engineering team

Analytical mindset and ability to grasp complex topics

Ability to create and foster relationships within a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Excellent Communication Skills

Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • This role will identify and drive solution approaches which support technology modernization within the OMF Loan Accounting System team and coordinate across the organization
  • This is a hands-on individual contributor, working directly with our leadership and development teams to coordinate, plan, develop and implement consistent and repeatable product solutions
  • Provide application architecture direction and guidance to technology and business partners with a focus on delivering actionable recommendations to peers and leadership to achieve targeted business outcomes
  • Work with a variety of technologies to design and implement application solutions on mainframe legacy systems, and various on-premises & cloud-native applications with clear concept of Agile, APIs, IBM zSeries, etc
  • Provide technical and architectural knowledge and experience during the planning, execution, and management of our custom Core application solutions
  • Work with various teams to build and maintain application development strategy, best practices & patterns, proof of concepts, as well as identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and resiliency throughout the organization
  • Prepare documentation to promote proposed strategies for executive decision
  • Participate in the development efforts around DevOps, Monitoring, Alerting, and Testing as it relates to our applications
  • Provide proper guidance to ensure applications are designed, tested, documented, implemented, enhanced, and maintained according to the enterprise standards and expected service quality
  • Willingness to learn about new trends and directions in the application development space
