Job Details

Under limited supervision, will perform configuration management, system administration, security administration, network administration, development system implementation, and/or production system implementation.

Essential Functions

About the Role - The FedEx U.S. Data Center team is responsible for 7x24 management of the safety, security and reliability of the colocation data centers. This position is responsible for managing the hardware infrastructure for mission critical enterprise data centers. This includes installation, maintenance, and system interfaces to meet business requirements/specifications for significant projects. As needed, apply specialized technical knowledge to advise other teams and recommend solutions to technical design problems. Lead and/or assist in resolution of complex production problems.

  • Responds to issues related to environment, hardware systems, and software systems. Implements resolution across technology areas.
  • Supports multiple systems simultaneously and provides leadership for large project efforts.
  • Coordination and consultation for activities between users, technicians, computer and communication networks across multiple projects, computing platforms, and technologies.
  • Lead and support activities related to change management and/or project management.
  • White space planning.
  • 24X7 operations with on-call duties.
  • Provides mentoring for the development of less senior staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in installing, configuring, and maintaining physical hardware, as well as diagnosing and repairing faults.
  • Strong human relations and communications skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to quickly identify and resolve issues, minimizing downtime. Ability to systematically approach problem-solving and apply logical processes to rectify faults.
  • Knowledge of network architecture, data center hardware/cabling, and familiarity with protocols such as TCP/IP.
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles.
  • General understanding of the systems that support the data center's operations, including HVAC systems, power distribution, and backup generators.
  • Compliance with industry regulations, company policies, legal and operational standards, including those related to security and data protection.
  • Experience working in a support group in a colocation facility.
  • Colocation and hardware vendor management.
  • Able to keep up with industry trends.
  • Ability to lift ~75 lbs and ability to operate a server lift.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, information systems or related field, and/or equivalent.

Minimum Experience

Five (5) years qualifying work experience in information technology or engineering environment.

Pay Transparency: This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors permitted by law.
