Job Duties:
- Provide professional mechanical engineering support to the French carrier program, focusing on EMALS/AAG equipment design, integration, and lifecycle sustainment.
- Conduct feasibility analyses, structural and thermal evaluations, and system performance assessments for shipboard mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Develop and review engineering drawings, design data, and interface control documents (ICDs) to ensure compliance with applicable naval standards and international requirements.
- Support installation planning, equipment layout optimization, and mounting interface design to integrate EMALS and AAG hardware into French carrier ship architecture.
- Participate in system-level testing, commissioning, and performance verification at test sites and ship integration facilities.
- Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic system failures.
- Collaborate closely with electrical, systems, and logistics engineers to ensure integrated design solutions and compatibility across all subsystems.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design change requests, test plans, maintenance procedures, and configuration management records.
- Support and contribute to Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) activities, including design, integration, and readiness reviews.
- Provide technical updates, status briefings, and engineering inputs to PMA-251 leadership, FMS case managers, and international customer representatives.
- Ensure all designs and documentation adhere to DoD, NAVAIR, and French engineering standards and environmental, safety, and quality requirements.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (BSME) in Mechanical Engineering and eight (8) or more years of relevant experience.
- Experience in the design, development, and integration of mechanical or hydraulic systems in a maritime, aerospace, or defense environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CREO, AutoCAD) and mechanical modeling tools.
- Understanding of structural design principles, material selection, and mechanical stress analysis.
- Experience conducting failure analysis and implementing design improvements or corrective actions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical disciplines and engage effectively with U.S. and international partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting shipboard mechanical systems, such as launch and recovery equipment, hydraulic actuators, or cooling and lubrication systems.
- Prior involvement in NAVAIR, NAVSEA, or FMS programs - particularly international maritime or carrier-based systems.
- Familiarity with EMALS, AAG, or related aircraft launch and recovery systems.
- Working knowledge of Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) processes and documentation standards.
- Experience with testing and commissioning complex mechanical systems, including performance validation and acceptance testing.
- Knowledge of ANSI, ASME, MIL-STD, and mechanical design standards.
Security Clearance :
- Active or Interim DoD Secret Clearance required on the first day of employment.
Travel :
- Occasional CONUS and OCONUS travel (up to 10%) may be required to support ship integration and international collaboration.
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a U.S. Passport.
