Overview
A Speech Pathologist evaluates and treats patients as prescribed by a physician, utilizing a variety of therapeutic techniques. The Speech Pathologist collaborates with families, physicians, and healthcare team members, maintains timely documentation, and actively participates in rehab team meetings and committees.
Responsibilities
Assess each patient s need for skilled therapy based on objective criteria.
Conduct evaluations per physician orders using standardized procedures with timely documentation.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with measurable short- and long-term goals.
Schedule, prepare, and complete daily therapy sessions.
Provide screenings, evaluations, treatment plans, equipment recommendations, and therapy documentation (initial, progress, and discharge notes).
Diagnose and treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
Educate and train families, caregivers, and healthcare staff.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA and rehabilitation policies.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Master s degree in Speech Pathology (including 18 semester hours in speech pathology with approved clinical practice).
Minimum 2 years of professional experience in geriatrics.
Licenses & Certifications
Current DC Speech Pathology License and Certification.
CPR Certification (BLS).
Proof of continuing education.
Credentialing Documents Required
Professional diplomas and transcripts.
Declaration of health and vaccination records (Influenza, COVID-19, PPD, Td/Tdap).
National criminal background check and drug screening.

Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively interact with patients in person and over the phone.
Problem-solving and critical thinking ability.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat).
