Your Role

The Data and Analytics (D&A) team focuses enterprise-wide to partner with business stakeholders to apply the power of data & analytics to deliver new insights and data-driven solutions to accelerate business outcomes. The Director, Data Product Engineering will report to the Sr Director, Data Management and Integration. In this role you will deliver trusted data to the organization in line with ongoing evolution in company strategy; ensuring stability and quality while meeting business needs to power the organization. The Director, Data Product Engineering is a critical part of Blue Shield's data-driven transformation and journey of reshaping the world of healthcare.

Responsibilities

Your Work

In this role, you will:
  • Be accountable for ingestion of internal and external data sources into data product environments and owns the data transformations, quality, standardization and observability of data
  • Provide leadership to data agile teams through the product lifecycle ensuring alignment to business outcomes, product roadmaps and value streams
  • Build scalable and flexible data models and products that use industry standards and serve multiple customers
  • Ensure the data products are discoverable in a marketplace and are interoperable, accessible, secure and re-usable
  • Partner with Analytics, Application, Security, Cloud and Program Office stakeholders to solve complex problems that impact our customers and business units
  • Build strong mature agile product teams that build and maintain data products with data modelling, design, quality, analysis and full stack engineering skills
  • Influence and ability to interact with sr. executives on data products effectiveness, TCO, organizational structural changes, strategy, impacts etc.
  • Create sustainable products that provide business value at scale with customer centric mindset by consistently engaging with internal and external stakeholders, understand their needs that translate into actionable product requirements

Qualifications

Your Knowledge and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Requires at least 10 years of prior relevant experience, including 6 years of management experience
  • Requires strong understanding of Agile methodologies, data design/architecture/modelling concepts/data sharing/ELT/Data quality and business intelligence tools
  • Requires experience with end-to-end product development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment in the context of data products
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem-solving techniques in a highly complex environment using leading-edge technology and/or integrating diverse technology applications
  • Strong background and working knowledge of all phases of systems analysis, design, programming, testing, and implementation
  • Effective communicator with a strong customer service orientation, ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels, and lead and influence senior professionals

Two Ways of Working:
  • Hybrid (Default): Work from a business unit-approved office at least two (2) times per month (for roles below Director-level) or once per week (for Director-level roles and above).Exceptions:

o Member-facing and approved out-of-state roles remain remote.

o Employees living more than 50 miles from their assigned offices are expected to work with their managers on a plan for periodic office visits.

  • On-Site: Work from a business unit-approved office an average of four (4) or more days a week.

Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
