Position commitment: Position Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. - Support the design, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of an enterprise credentialing service that provisions PKI-based smartcard credentials for multi-factor authentication, digital signature, and encryption and device certificates for enabling secure transport protocols (SSL, TLS) on systems and applications.
- Identify, test, deploy and maintain authentication technologies to ensure LANL remains compliant with relevant NIST requirements and keeps pace with industry best practices.
- Install, configure, and maintain new and existing operating systems in Windows physical and virtualized environments.
- Lead and assist with multiple projects, including researching and recommending solutions.
- Perform duties independently without significant supervision or oversight.
- Design, document, lead, and implement complex technical projects.
- Identify, promote, and develop new technical capabilities for LANL and/or DOE NNSA.
- Provide advice and guidance relevant to ICAM initiatives and technologies to various levels of LANL line management as well as to DOE NNSA program managers and leadership.
- Interact and collaborate with other DOE and NNSA sites (e.g., LLNL, SNL, HQ, etc.) on ICAM initiatives and participate in DOE-wide working groups
- Travel to other DOE sites to support LANL and DOE NNSA enterprise projects.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience deploying and maintaining Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certification authorities (CAs) and directories for provisioning certificates to users and systems at an enterprise scale.
- General understanding of hardware security modules (HSMs) and their role within a PKI.
- Demonstrated experience implementing phishing resistant multifactor authentication credentials.
- Experience with latest Windows Server operating systems.
- Demonstrated experience engineering technical solutions and troubleshooting issues with deployed systems and services.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, design, document, lead and implement complex technical projects.
- Demonstrated ability to develop technical solution architectures and design documentation.
- Ability to work and collaborate with other subject matter experts.
- Able to work in a classified computing environment, as necessary.
- Able to travel to other DOE sites to support LANL and DOE NNSA enterprise projects.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active DOE Q clearance
- Experience with PKI, asymmetric cryptography, understanding the principles of PKI, its practical applications, and certificate lifecycle management
- Experience with Entrust PKI software to include Entrust Security Manager (SM), Entrust Security Manager Administration (SMA), and Entrust Enterprise Administration Services (EAS)
- Experience with commercial credential management system (CMS) software to include HID Global ActivID CMS
- Experience with commercial Hardware Security Modules (HSMs)
- Experience with implementing phishing resistant authentication with cloud service providers such as Microsoft EntraID and Amazon Works Space (AWS)
- Experience with provisioning Yubikeys with PIV-derived credentials and/or FIDO2 credentials
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, design and lead technical efforts independently or in a collaboration environment.
