Job Description:

The Business Analyst 5 will work as a liaison between business stakeholders and the technical team to gather, analyze, document, and validate business requirements for IT projects within MDOT. The analyst will support both current-state assessments and future-state planning to align IT solutions with business goals.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct business analysis and requirements elicitation using industry-standard methodologies.
  • Facilitate requirement-gathering sessions with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Document clear, unambiguous, and testable requirements in line with DTMB/MDOT standards.
  • Develop and manage project backlogs during Agile projects; collaborate with Product Owner on prioritization.
  • Analyze and document As-Is and To-Be processes and workflows.
  • Participate in solution design, working with UI/UX, developers, architects, QA, and other technical roles.
  • Support the Build vs. Buy analysis process with data and insights.
  • Assist in resolving critical IT issues from a BA perspective.
  • Ensure completion of SEM (State Enterprise Model) deliverables specific to the Business Analyst role.
  • Monitor scope adherence and assess the impact of changes to requirements or scope.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with business analysis tools and techniques.
  • Deep understanding of Agile (Scrum) and Waterfall SDLCs.
  • Ability to create detailed documentation such as Epics, User Stories, and business process diagrams.

Work Environment:

Hybrid schedule with mandatory in-office presence every Tuesday and Wednesday in Lansing, MI. Remote work is not allowed outside Michigan.
