Position Summary

We are seeking a Data Governance Analyst to support and enhance the organization s data governance framework, focusing on accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data across systems. This role centers on developing and maintaining data dictionaries, standardizing data elements, and managing metadata repositories to support effective data usage and informed decision-making.

The analyst will collaborate with epidemiologists, informaticists, data stewards, program leads, and IT teams to harmonize data elements, document business rules, maintain metadata, and promote standardized data practices. The ideal candidate brings experience in data governance or health informatics, familiarity with data management tools, and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Data Dictionary Development & Maintenance

  • Create, update, and maintain comprehensive data dictionaries with accurate definitions and business rules.
  • Collaborate with system owners and SMEs to validate and standardize data definitions.
  • Provide training and documentation related to data dictionary usage.

Data Standardization

  • Develop standardized naming conventions, formats, and coding rules across systems.
  • Identify and resolve inconsistencies in data standards across workflows and platforms.
  • Train staff on standardized data practices and support related modernization or integration efforts.

Metadata Management

  • Develop and maintain metadata repositories capturing data lineage, ownership, and usage.
  • Implement standardized processes for metadata cataloging and updates.
  • Monitor metadata quality and recommend improvements.

Governance & Compliance Support

  • Support enforcement of data governance policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Monitor compliance and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Provide documentation and support for audits and reporting needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Information Science, Computer Science, Database Management, Public Health, or a related field (Master s preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or similar roles.
  • Strong understanding of data dictionaries, data standards, and metadata management frameworks.
  • Experience with data governance/metadata tools such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or similar.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Experience within healthcare, public health, or government data environments.
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations such as HIPAA or GDPR.
