VPN Specialist
Role Summary:
This role is responsible for building, maintaining, updating, and troubleshooting business-to-business (with health system) IPSec VPN connections.
Additionally, a core function of this role involves training the existing support team on VPN operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures so they can take over the basic tasks. This will occur by letting the team shadow work activities or shadowing the production support team as they make the changes and updates.
Key Responsibilities
Configure and manage B2B VPN tunnels to facilitate client connections. Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and optimal connectivity.
Create and maintain documentation, including network diagrams, troubleshooting and support procedures, and configuration guidelines. Directly assist external customers encountering network connectivity issues via phone call or asynchronous communication. Provide network operations, troubleshooting support, and guidance to internal teams. Conduct hands-on training sessions for the support team. Provide ongoing mentorship and support to the support team regarding VPNs.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Expertise in building, managing, troubleshooting, and providing customer support for B2B IPsec VPN connections. Strong theoretical and applied knowledge of layer 2, 3, and 4 protocols, with an emphasis on TCP, UDP, and, most importantly, IPsec. Proficiency with the Linux command line, basic scripting, and networking and firewalling software such as iptables or nftables, tcpdump, wireshark, netcat, etc. Experience with Libreswan, specifically, or other Linux-based VPNs. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Experience with SumoLogic s query language. Familiarity with Github, Python, and/or Typescript
