Job Details

Audio Visual Technicians are needed for a government municipality in Downtown Los Angeles to set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot audio equipment for various applications. This will be an 8-month contract and require 100% onsite.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an AV Technician, with preference for 4 years.
  • Strong understanding of A/V systems, programming languages, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team when needed.
  • Preference for candidates with AVIXA certification or other leading professional credentials, such as CTS (Certified Technology Specialist), or equivalent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Add necessary wiring to new and existing buildings or job sites and install new equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Terminate wires, climb ladders, and manage wires effectively.
  • Install permanent AV equipment in offices, classrooms, and other spaces, ensuring it is securely mounted and operational.
  • Run wires in both new and existing buildings and through ceilings, walls, and floors.
  • Familiarity with various AV equipment brands and models, including but not limited to Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Shure, and Sony.
  • Identify the appropriate materials for mounting AV equipment (e.g., weight-bearing capacities, mounting hardware) to ensure proper and secure installation.
  • Troubleshoot and connect input/output for audio/video equipment, including speakers, microphones, projectors, and external mount/ceiling speakers.
  • Set up, maintain, and dismantle AV equipment for live or recorded events, including but not limited to microphones, sound systems, video cameras, monitors, servers, and teleconferencing equipment.
  • Test all equipment to ensure proper connection, signal flow, and functionality before use.
  • Provide technical assistance during events, presentations, or meetings.

Technical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of audio and video signal flow, including encoding, decoding, and signal processing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics, including wiring diagrams, control system setups, and AV rack layouts.
  • Proficiency with key AV software and systems such as Pro Tools, Crestron, Extron, Biamp, and AMX.
  • Familiarity with video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams) and remote presentation tools.
  • Experience with audiovisual control systems, including touch panels and control interfaces.
  • Ability to lay low voltage cables (HDMI, Cat 5/6, fiber optics) according to industry and manufacturer standards.
  • Basic IT knowledge, including network configuration, wireless and wired connections, and troubleshooting of IP-based AV systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and transport heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs or more depending on equipment).
  • Ability to work in various environments and at heights (e.g., ladders, scaffolding) for installation and cable management.
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces, attics, crawl spaces, and other challenging environments as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in a related field or technical school preferred.
  • Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting AV equipment.
  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude, with a focus on precision and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with clients, end-users, and team members.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, particularly during events or projects.
  • Flexibility with work schedule. Willingness to work varied hours, which may include evenings & weekends to accommodate department needs. Note: normal working hoursare during the day, e.g., Mon-Fri, 8am 4pm.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy, with a strong focus on safety and proper work practices.
  • Valid driver s license and clean driving record.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Clean, repair, and maintain AV equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and training to end-users of AV equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve media system problems, such as audio/video signal issues, equipment failures, and connectivity problems.
  • Assist with the integration of AV systems into other technology infrastructures, such as lighting, control, and HVAC systems.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging AV technologies, ensuring the use of current best practices and solutions.
  • Follow all worksite safety guidelines, including the proper handling of electrical and technical equipment.
  • Regularly inspect and ensure compliance with safety and code regulations in all AV installations.
  • Document AV system setups, wiring configurations, and equipment maintenance records for future reference.

Additional Desired Skills and Attributes:

  • Knowledge of lighting control systems and integration with AV equipment.
  • Ability to work with both analog and digital audio systems.
  • Experience with live event setups, including concerts, conferences, and large-scale presentations.
  • Familiarity with content management systems for digital signage, including software like Scala, BrightSign, and others.
  • Strong customer service skills, with an emphasis on providing exceptional experiences to clients and end-users.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues during live events with minimal disruption.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities. Capable of proposing creative solutions for unique service requests. Ability to think quickly and use alternative approaches (if needed) during troubleshooting.
