Role Name: Data Governance Specialist Microsoft Purview
Location: 3 days/week onsite in Jersey City, NJ

Duration: 6 Months+

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Specialist with hands-on experience in implementing Microsoft Purview to drive enterprise-level governance across complex data ecosystems. This role is pivotal in ensuring data integrity, regulatory compliance, and strategic data utilization in the investment banking domain. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in data governance frameworks, data quality, and regulatory compliance - with the technical skills to operationalize Microsoft Purview across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end implementation and configuration of Microsoft Purview for enterprise-wide data governance.
  • Design and deploy data governance frameworks aligned to investment banking operations, risk, and regulatory needs.
  • Collaborate with data stewards, owners, and stakeholders to define and manage:
  • Metadata standards
  • Data classification
  • Data lineage
  • Data quality rules
  • Integrate Microsoft Purview with Azure Data Services, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and other enterprise data platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and financial industry regulations (e.g., BCBS 239, SOX).
  • Provide training, enablement, and documentation on Purview capabilities, ensuring adoption across business and technical teams.
  • Act as a trusted advisor for data governance best practices and policy enforcement.
  • Required Qualifications:

    • Proven experience in Microsoft Purview implementation in enterprise-scale environments.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related disciplines.
    • In-depth knowledge of investment banking data domains, regulatory landscapes, and risk/compliance mandates.
    • Strong expertise in:
    • Data cataloging and classification
    • Data lineage visualization
    • Data quality measurement and management
    • Policy enforcement
  • Familiarity with AI/ML data governance and ethical data usage practices.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Successful delivery of at least one full-scale Microsoft Purview rollout.
    • Proficiency in Azure Synapse, Data Lake, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric integration.
    • Understanding of data privacy laws and financial compliance frameworks.
    • Experience working in hybrid/cloud enterprise environments and across cross-functional teams.
    • Relevant Certifications:
    • Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals
    • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalent
    • Azure Data Engineer or Azure Fundamentals
