OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly qualified senior science writer to research, write, and edit information on evidence-based practices and service delivery models related to mental health and substance use. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience synthesizing evidence on a key topic or intervention, and authoring content that provides guidance and support to practitioners, communities, service systems, and other stakeholders.
DUTIES
- Research and write comprehensive short-and long-form publications on topics related to mental health and substance use disorder treatment, prevention, and recovery.
- Lead or contribute to the full range of product development activities, including conceptualizing product formats, developing publication rationale, developing substantive outlines, and translating peer-reviewed research into clear and actionable content.
- Perform extensive research by reviewing published literature, collaborating with subject matter experts, and reviewing legislative and regulatory guidance.
- Prepare literature reviews and annotated bibliographies and conduct environmental scans.
- Draft evidence-based documents that follow plain language guidelines and accurately represent all source material.
- Assess and incorporate internal and external reviewer feedback.
- Fact check content written by others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in public health, psychology, psychiatry, or a related field.
- 10 years of experience writing science and health content, preferably for a government agency such as SAMHSA, NIH or HHS.
- Familiarity with mental health and substance use disorder research, treatment, prevention, and recovery support services.
- Proven ability to identify, review, and assess the quality of topic-specific research literature, and to synthesize research information independently, with minimal guidance from content experts.
- Experience facilitating stakeholder meetings and consensus-based content development meetings.
- Experience in client-facing roles.
- Knowledge of and experience applying Federal plain language guidelines.
- Experience using APA, Chicago, and GPO style manuals.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word, EndNote, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
Salary Range: $110,000 to $140,000 per year
