DUTIES

  • Research and write comprehensive short-and long-form publications on topics related to mental health and substance use disorder treatment, prevention, and recovery.
  • Lead or contribute to the full range of product development activities, including conceptualizing product formats, developing publication rationale, developing substantive outlines, and translating peer-reviewed research into clear and actionable content.
  • Perform extensive research by reviewing published literature, collaborating with subject matter experts, and reviewing legislative and regulatory guidance.
  • Prepare literature reviews and annotated bibliographies and conduct environmental scans.
  • Draft evidence-based documents that follow plain language guidelines and accurately represent all source material.
  • Assess and incorporate internal and external reviewer feedback.
  • Fact check content written by others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in public health, psychology, psychiatry, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience writing science and health content, preferably for a government agency such as SAMHSA, NIH or HHS.
  • Familiarity with mental health and substance use disorder research, treatment, prevention, and recovery support services.
  • Proven ability to identify, review, and assess the quality of topic-specific research literature, and to synthesize research information independently, with minimal guidance from content experts.
  • Experience facilitating stakeholder meetings and consensus-based content development meetings.
  • Experience in client-facing roles.
  • Knowledge of and experience applying Federal plain language guidelines.
  • Experience using APA, Chicago, and GPO style manuals.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word, EndNote, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

Salary Range: $110,000 to $140,000 per year
