Job Title: Network Engineer
Location: Ocoee, FL
Duration: 1 Year Contract


Job Summary:

A government agency is seeking an experienced Network Engineer for a year-long engagement to support and optimize its network infrastructure. This role involves strategic planning, architecture design, implementation, and performance tuning across a multi-site enterprise network. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with enterprise-grade networking solutions, including HPE/Aruba products, and hold multiple Cisco certifications.


Responsibilities:

  • Design, optimize, and implement scalable and secure network infrastructure using copper, fiber, and wireless technologies.

  • Translate business needs into technical network solutions including hardware, software, and architectural designs.

  • Maintain and configure routers, switches, wireless access points, and other network equipment.

  • Conduct risk assessments, capacity planning, and lifecycle management of network components.

  • Collaborate with internal teams for compliance with security standards and PCI requirements.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend upgrades or new solutions.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues; document protocols and resolution processes.

  • Lead enterprise-wide network initiatives and mentor junior IT staff.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of network designs, topologies, and system configurations.

  • Travel to remote sites to provide hands-on support.

  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support, including weekends.

  • Follow asset management and incident tracking processes using ITSM tools.

  • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs. when necessary.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong grasp of network design, implementation, and performance tuning.

  • Expertise in end-to-end networking: from DMARC to end-user workstations.

  • Deep understanding of the OSI model and data flow across network layers.

  • Hands-on experience with HPE/Aruba switching and wireless technologies.

  • Proficiency in managing routing and switching protocols, VLANs, DHCP, and QoS.

  • Cloud networking experience (Azure, AWS, etc.) is a plus.

  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and SOPs.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and mentoring skills.

  • Familiarity with compliance requirements and security standards.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.


Certifications (Required):

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

  • Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP)

  • Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP)

  • Cisco Certified Voice Professional (CCVP)


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor s Degree or Technical Certification in Information Systems, Networking, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • 7+ years in IT infrastructure/networking operations, including support and maintenance.

  • 3+ years of enterprise-level networking experience.

  • Prior experience with government/public sector IT environments is preferred.


Additional Notes:

  • Contractor must be reachable and responsive to incident requests.

  • Vendor must provide a smartphone with active data services and security compliance.

  • Mobile apps such as Outlook, Teams, and ServiceNow must be installed and updated regularly.
