SAP Programming Consultant / Senior Java Developer

This role is being created due to the increased workload from ongoing SCEIS procurement and modernization projects. Additional senior development resources are required to design, build, and implement new cloud-native solutions.
Scope of the Project
The consultant will play a key role in implementing enterprise-grade solutions to support:

REST API development and event-driven, message-based pub/sub integrations.

Standardization of design patterns and engineering best practices.
-
Development of web applications that support SCEIS business processes.
-
Automation of DevOps pipelines (unit testing, regression testing, static/dynamic security scans, deployments, etc.).
-
Maturing the agency s SDLC and DevOps practices to improve efficiency and quality.
Position Details

Title: SAP Programming Consultant / Senior Java Developer

Duration: 12 months (with strong possibility of extension)

Work Type: On-site (no remote option)

Sector: Public Sector / Government experience required

Background Checks: Drug screen, motor vehicle check, criminal/SLED background check, credit, and E-Verify

Interview Process: One or more rounds with SCEIS leadership & development teams (in-person preferred; Teams w/camera acceptable)
Daily Duties & Responsibilities
-
Participate fully in Agile ceremonies: daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews/demos, and retrospectives.
-
Engage in all development activities including solutioning, coding, testing, and code reviews.
-
Ensure all work meets acceptance criteria and aligns with the team s definition of done.

Contribute to the team s DevOps model, ensuring quality and support across the full SDLC.

Partner with architects, developers, and stakeholders to design and enhance business and technical processes.
Required Skills (ranked by importance)
-
5+ years of application development using solid object-oriented principles.
-
5+ years of Java web development (Spring Boot, Maven, JUnit).
-
Strong understanding of RESTful API design and development.
-
5+ years developing containerized applications with Docker.
-
Experience with Git and branching strategies (e.g., GitFlow).
-
Effective communication and collaboration skills in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Skills
-
Cloud development experience (Azure strongly preferred; AWS acceptable), including:
-
API management (Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway).
-
Event-driven services (Azure EventGrid, AWS SNS/SQS).
-
Serverless compute (Azure Functions, Container Apps, AWS Lambda, Fargate).
-
Managed databases (Azure SQL Managed Instance, AWS RDS).
-
-
Familiarity with DevOps tools (Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jira).
-
Experience with SAP, SAP 4/HANA, Ivalua, or other ERP systems.
-
Background in event-driven architectures.

5+ years using Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipeline development and backlog management.
-
Experience with test-driven development (TDD).

Prior experience working on Agile teams (Scrum or Kanban).
Education & Certifications
-
Required: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field OR 5+ years of equivalent experience in application/system development.

Preferred: Azure and/or AWS certifications; experience with SAP, SAP 4/HANA, or Ivalua.

Access to a virtual desktop set up (software) will be provided by Lumen s client, allowing the user access to the required systems and technology.***
