Job Description:
Client is seeking a Senior Customer Solutions Engineer to join our Professional Services team to implement and configure Rocket Zack, our mainframe console automation and message management solution. This role requires a blend of system-level automation expertise, deep mainframe knowledge, and attention to operational continuity.

Mainframe Systems & Console Management

• Strong understanding of z/OS console operations and system message flow.
• Familiarity with IBM system messages (IEF, JES, WTOR, etc.) and automated reply handling.
• Knowledge of message routing, suppression, and console security controls.
• Experience managing IPL and system shutdown automation.
• Experience installing and configuring mainframe software.
• Creating and tuning automation rules for message detection and response.
• Managing message traps, command execution, and workflow triggers.

Monitoring, Alerting, and Logging

• Real-time monitoring and validation of system messages within Zack s console.
• Configuration and interpretation of event logging, history tracking, and audit records.
• Setting up alerts for escalations and proactive incident management.

Integration and Scripting

• Integration with scheduling and automation platforms such as Rocket Zeke or CA-7.
• Scripting in REXX, CLIST, or using SAF exits to extend automation behavior.
• Using SMF data and system logs to refine and validate automation logic.

Security and Compliance

• Enforcing access controls and operator permissions.
• Capturing full audit trails of automated responses and operator actions.
• Supporting compliance requirements through secured automation practices.

Soft Skills & Operational Readiness

• Clear communication with operations, systems, and security teams.
• Strong documentation habits, including rule descriptions and change histories.
• Ability to conduct root cause analysis using message history and logs.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in IBM z/OS environments, including system console and message management.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Rocket Zack implementation and configuration or comparable competitive products
• Experience with CA OPS/MVS and Mainframe automation is a huge bonus
• Expertise in automation rule creation, message suppression, and conditional command responses.
• Strong scripting skills in REXX, CLIST, or equivalent languages used in mainframe environments.
• Experience with system performance monitoring and SMF data analysis.
• Familiarity with integration between Zack and job scheduling tools like Rocket Zeke or CA-7.
• Excellent documentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
