Job Details

Oracle Database Administrator

  • Duration: Contract Role with Potential to Hire Permanently
  • Location: New York, NY 10012 - Hybrid 2-3 Days per week Onsite

Responsibilities
Database Installation and Configuration

  • Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle database software
  • Create and configure databases

Database Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as space management, data file management, and statistics gathering
  • Monitor and manage database storage, including data files, tablespaces, and redo logs
  • Review alert log and standby logs.

Patch and Upgrades

  • Apply patches, and updates, to the Oracle database software to address security vulnerabilities and compliance
  • Plan and execute database upgrades to newer versions while minimizing downtime

Backup and Recovery

  • Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN), Data Pump and Oracle Flashback
  • Perform regular backups and test recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime

High Availability and Disaster Recovery

  • Implement high availability solutions such as Data Guard, data guard broker and test failover.
  • Configure standby databases for disaster recovery and failover scenarios

Performance Monitoring and Tuning

  • Monitor database performance metrics using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), and AWR reports and ASH reports.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through SQL tuning, index optimization, and memory management

Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution

  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including errors, performance problems, and data corruption
  • Utilize diagnostic tools like Oracle Trace, explain plan, and TKPROF for troubleshooting
  • Use MyOracleSupport (MOS) to diagnose errors and create tickets.

Security Management

  • Manage database security, including user access controls, roles, and privileges
  • Implement encryption, auditing, and compliance controls to protect sensitive data

Capacity Planning

  • Monitor database growth trends and plan for future capacity requirements
  • Forecast resource needs and recommend hardware upgrades or scaling options as needed

Database Design, Development, and SDLC

  • Design and implement database schemas, tablespaces, tables, indexes, constraints, and data files
  • Optimize database design for performance, scalability, and data integrity
  • Create Views, Stored Procedures, Functions, Materialized Views, External Tables and Packages
  • Moving Data and Database Objects across environments
  • Create releases for application fixes

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations, procedures, and operational processes.
  • Generate reports on database performance and health as required.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other IT teams, developers, and stakeholders
