Description

Hybrid: The successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan 3 to 5 times per week.

The Role

As an Engineer of the Battery Cell Systems Research team with a focus on GM's Battery Cell to Pack, you will support the development and validation of advanced battery technologies for automotive applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the battery cycler lab. The position will offer the opportunities to support a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers, while also working with testing equipment suppliers.

What You'll Do

  • Operate various lab equipment such as battery test equipment, power supplies, data loggers and environmental chambers
  • Instrument test stations to enable execution of test requests; Support test set up/execution of various battery prototype cells (format, size, capacity, ect.)
  • Simple fabrication/modification of basic test fixtures to support testing
  • Understand and assist researchers in writing test procedures; apply cycling test conditions, protocols, and conduct battery tests to meet requirements for specific applications
  • Oversee lab capability and assign equipment usage to optimize throughput efficiency
  • Document and report lab usage
  • Address equipment issues found during testing and provide a solution
  • Observe and ensure proper lab safety practices; communicate the lab hazards appropriately
  • Build relationship and develop partnerships with researchers, UAW trades, technicians and suppliers to meet project objectives
  • Participate in technical discussions and reviews to maintain up-to-date knowledge of projects to be able to support and prioritize accordingly
  • Demonstrate innovative thinking, creativity and taking initiative without supervision
  • Take action to grow and diversify personal skills and competency base

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related
  • 2 years of battery related experience
  • Familiarity with battery and electrochemical test equipment (Maccor, Bitrode, Arbin, Solartron, Gamry, Bio-Logic etc.) programming, operation, methodology, and data analysis
  • Strong organization and ability to manage parallel projects
  • Basic machining capabilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
